PIP Claim.

Hi Everyone,

In December 2020 I applied for PIP. I got sent the ‘How your disability effects you’ form and I completed it and gave as much info as I could, even gave the names of 3 consultants that I am under the care of. I sent it off within the time specified and a few days after I sent it, the DWP text me to say they had received my ‘How your disability effects you’ form and they would start processing it shortly.

It’s now May 2021 and I haven’t heard anything from the DWP about my claim. I’m getting worried that it may of got mislaid somewhere, maybe it hasn’t.? The only phone number I have is the number I called to claim, on the automated voice recording they tell you not to phone them about your claim unless it’s to report a change in circumstances.

Does anyone know if it’s taking longer then the usual due to the volume of claims during the pandemic, or am I worrying about nothing as this is the normal length of time.

Thank You.

Keep Safe,

Liam.

If you don’t mind me asking, what health problems do you have.?

Hi, I started my pips claim last october and I'm still waiting. Expect them to give you just short of the required 8 points to be paid anything. You then go through the preliminary review (which is where I'm now at). Then you might need to do the appeal. Stick to your guns. Pips usually go to review before you win. They pay from the claim date.

I help people professionally with pips and I've only come across 2 people who have had immediate acceptance. To be fair neither of them are as decprepid as I am 😊😂.

Hi they are taking longer but I would still give them a call to check. Once you have had your assessment you can call them to request the report, which you can challenge the decision maker . The report is often written to say you are more able, don’t feel afraid to put a letter in at that point highlighting what you don’t agree with. You then have the mandatory reconsideration letter and download a template to write further how your health condition affects you again highlighting your concerns. You can also put a letter in from a family member who knows how your health condition affects you and the help that you need. Good luck 🤞

Remember you don't have to fit it all into heir form. YOu can add as many extra pages as you need. I had 11 extra pages of explaining health conditions and how they affect me and 3 pages of doctors and consultants.

The only problem you mention is fatigue ‘could’ and I say ‘could’ in a non professional way, be a heart problem. Don’t worry about it, talk to your doctor. Have you discussed the slow heart rate with your doctor.?

They take forever at the best of times. I've rung before to see if my form's arrived on that number. Try it - they are only trying t o cut down on calls.Don't be surprised if you get turned down; it's almost expected. Just appeal. against the decision but do get help. The Benefits and work website is incredible or citizens' advice. B&W is best though.

Try and get a second opinion on it. Try and get referred to a cardiologist. It’s difficult to say what level, it’s individual of everyone. Mine has dipped down to 33, but it’s confirmed I do have 2nd degree type 1 heart block. They are not treating it at the moment. They’ve treated my AF with cardiac cryoablation with transoesphageal echo. This is not to say you have a cardiac problem.
