Hi there, I need some support. My 60 year old husband had a heart attack 6 weeks ago, had a stent fitted, and came home from hospital with a shed load of pills. Today he woke up with chest pain, although different to last one. Back in hospital, another heart attack diagnosed. He’s being transferred to a different hospital as there is no cardiologist on duty at the first!
Why has this happened again? He recovered well, said he felt better than ever, has probably overdone things (although not this last weekend, we just lounged around a lot.
He was a taxi driver, he’ll probably never work again. The local licensing authority are demanding an exercise ECG before giving him his licence back. I don’t want him to have this as I think it will kill him. I’ll have to support us both, and money is a worry. I was made redundant last year and am trying to keep my payoff intact for times like these, and emergencies.
Thanks for reading all this.

The "exercise ECG" that you mention is really nothing to be afraid of. It's conducted under strict supervision by trained professionals. If you or your husband are concerned about it then please talk it through with your GP.
Alternatively, the BHF (who operate this forum) have expert cardiac nurses who you can telephone to talk things through. It's a wonderful free service and I'm sure they will be able to reassure you.
Thank you - I will certainly give the nurses a call.
One problem we have found with getting an exercise ECG is that a lot of private providers (Nuffield to name but one) aren’t doing them because of Covid, the ones that are want £400+, and the NHS have other, greater priorities. Apparently there is a chap in London who does nothing but these, but that would be around £500, plus a drive there, and possible overnight stay.
Hi, you should consider putting in for pips. There also may be other benefits he's entitled to. I'd recommend a chat with your local CAB. Hope it all goes well for you both 👍😊
I have completed the ECG test after 5 stents fitted and it was all good I have an HGV licence snd need a medical every year go do the test 2 specialist nurses on duty and it’s in the cardiac area if the hospital where the test is done you will have the electrodes fitted and a blood pressure monitor then do stages walking at various speeds on a treadmill he should have no problems I’m still taking the meds to keep my licence DVLA pay the bill ✅✅but go on do it keep smiling 👍
That’s good to know, thanks. Makes us feel a bit easier about him having one. One quick question - why does the DVLA pay the Bill, is that just a HGV thing?
If DVLA want you to have a treadmill test as a medical condition to keep your licence in my case my HGV they have always paid I’ve now done 3 however for a normal medical to keep licence using the D4 form I pay which is about 120 with my own Dr who has all medical records and also does an eyesight test again all done snd passed this year COVID no Drs will see you so fill your own in and you get your licence fir a year taken 6 weeks so far but been issued just keep smiling g 👍
