MRI with Adenosine

Hi all, I'm due for an mri stress and contrast test next week. A thought occurred to me. I suffer acute angina and breathlessness after HA and stents and am on a truck load of drugs for it. I have to stop them all 24 hours before the mri and was wondering if the stress part could induce another HA. A little worrying but at least I'll be in the right place

Hi I had one last week, don’t recall stopping any of the 6 meds I take, but I was a little worried about the whole thing, in the end it was totally painless no caffeine for 12+ hours and no breakfast was the most painful as I do love a cuppaDouble check your letter or try call the department as I really don’t remember stopping meds, let’s see what others say.

No, I never had to stop my meds either. I thought one of the reasons for doing the stress test was to see how the meds were working?

I have had 3 Perfusion MRIs with adenosine.I have never stopped my medication before hand.

I agree with the advice given by the others, check with the department.

I agree with the other harties, check with the department re: your meds.I don’t recall having to stop them.

The stress part is fully controlled by them. They told me that they would give me something to put stress on my heart and it may feel like a heart attack but, they said, don’t worry, we’re in control. And in fairness they were.

They kept me talking at that point, until I couldn’t keep talking and then the sensation went away immediately and I was fine.

These people are so "up on their game". For us it’s a big deal but for them, their so professional, it’s just another day at the office.

There was a long list of medications which had to be stopped for 24 hrs before my perfusion scan- not sure if this is the same as your test?-the only one I was taking was the beta blocker Bisoprolol.

Hi guys, thanks for the responses ( sorry about the delay in replying). I’ve just got in from having the mri. I cleared up the confusion with the drugs as I only had to stop the isosorbide and ranexa. The mri was absolutely fine but the adesoline.....well, what can I say, for me ( and I stress) only for me, it felt like an induced HA. I was on the verge of hitting the panic button but I suppose they could see what was going on and spoke to me and discontinued the infusion. I suppose my experience was good in a way because I definitely know they will get something out of it. I just have to wait now. Fingers crossed!
