Any advice please?

I am Hypothyroid, on Levothyroxine now for some 10/12 years. I have recently been diagnosed with Hypertension and am taking Ramipril and Lisinopril. I was taking Amlodipine but my ankles swelled so badly and painfully that I had to come off it. My issue however is my really low mood, weepy, totally exhausted, no interest in anything, I'm literally dragging myself through the day, it's dreadful. I don't know if I'm like this because of the Hypertension (This on the Thyroid UK site too), the amalgamation between all the meds, just really run down (I hurt my back , so very immobile) or coming out (I hoped anyway!) of Lockdown to not be able to do anything much when I was so hopeful to do so? So my question is please, has anyone else had the same issue? Any tips, suggestions. I'd be so very grateful, it's horrible living like this. x

Hi- that’s not good- I had to have my ramipril reduced as felt like a zombie on 2.5 mg- they were trying to get me up to 10- I also take levothyroxine - so think it could be combination. Speak to your GP - can they adjust- good luck

Thank you for replying. I 'm wondering if it's the 2 drugs impacting on me? I'll try getting through this week, see if I adjust and take it from there? Thanks again x

Hi Liz...I had to reply as I really do empathise with your situation. I am also on Levothyroxine and Lasartan for BP and had to come off Amlodipine for exactly the same reason. . but I do urge you to see your GP as soon as possible and tell him/ her how you are feeling. It may be your meds but sounds to me like depression and the sooner you get some help the better.( dont struggle on through the week!) I have been there and can 100% relate to how you're feeling. Do you have any support at home? I do hope so. Sending you my very best wishes x

Thank you Redmile. As awful as this may sound, it's good to know someone else has felt the same....I've not, not got support it's more that my husband doesn't have a clue how to deal with anything emotional. So he suggests I go for a 10kg walk, run around the block and buys food high in carbs - in other words all that he would do, head in sand - pretend this isn't happening. So...yes in as much as he tries and no as he can't cope. Oh and then stops talking "in case I shout" So see a double problem here really!!! I may call the GP this week you know, thank you for your kindness it is so appreciated. x

Hi Liz....well I had to reply because I think we could be married to the same man🤣🤣 but joking apart it can be a very lonely place when they dont understand. But there is light at the end of the tunnel..so keep strong, get the help you need and I'm sure you will climb out of that dark place very soon.xx

Hi I’ve been on Ramipril too. They took me off it because I developed a persistent cough. I had problems with amlodipine too (🙄) speak to your gp it may be well be a combination that’s leaving you feeling yuk. Best wishes and keep being persistent with gp surgery.

Hi liz1952, I’ve been on Amlodipine almost 2yrs similar problems to yours also on thyroid tablets as well due to Thyroid cancer over 20 yrs ago and had it all removed clear ever since. Just restarted statins low dose my choice. All after effects were similar but things have settled down and live with them also suffer from tinnitus badly which can lower my mood as well. So can’t give any help really but stick with it and chase up your GP if necessary. Take care.
