I've been taking Atorvastatin 40mg since December last year, and over the last 3 weeks I've been experiencing unbearable joint pains in my upper limbs, but not all at the same time, one day it could be in 1 of my wrist and then a few days later it could be in 1 of my shoulders or elbows.
It's there anyone that has experienced this if so what did you do to get it sorted?

Statins can cause joint pain no doubt about that. Have you had blood test since you started taking medication. If your cholesterol has fallen then they are doing their job. Talk with your GP to try another type of statin that’s what I had to do.
Hi Yes,I have terrible joint pains in fingers, and muscle pains in lower back in bloody agony some time Statins can do this to you, I'm having a word with GP tomorrow to see what I can do , I want a blood test to see if Atorvastatin has lowered my Cholesterol levels, take care.
That was me with severe joint pain, my cholesterol was out of control even on statins and rose to a level of 9.6 with Familial Hypercholesterolemia-so no amount of diet was going to change things. As I was unable to tolerate the usual prescribed statins I got referred to a consultant and was put onto a low dose, 5mg of Rosuvastatin and my cholesterol was lowered to 5. I still ended up having emergency Double by pass surgery 5 years ago at 61. After that I was put on Ezetimibe alongside the Rosuvastatin- my cholesterol is now at 3. Speak to your cardiologist and ask about other statins. I feel they pay more attention when you go in well informed. Good luck.
I have well controlled( just now) fibromyalgia ( chronic joint pain fatigue) for ten years. Cardiologist put me on only 40mg statin after h.a. 2 years ago. I take the statin at bedtime. Sleep through any side effects! Worth a try?
I was given 10mg dosage but as yet have not taken any I am waiting to get second opinion . My cholesterol is fine also my weight BMI etc also bloods are fine except for slight elevation in alt in my liver . Therefore having said all that I dont see why I av been put on statins . Sorry I cannot be of much help . Take care
Thank you that maybe the reason then . I have an appointment via phone next week so I will be asking all these questions and hopefully get some answers
I too had problems with joint pain but to be fair had Polymyalgia about 8 years ago so continued to have residual milder pains from that. Was reasonably okay taking 20 mg of Atorvastatin for a few years but the pains started to get worse and stopped them and since that have gone back to my more normal pains. Do worry though about not being on them anymore as my father had multiple heart attacks and a final bad stroke. Speak to doctor and don’t stop without consulting him as perhaps might try reducing dose or a different type of statin. A friend who had no problems being on them for a few years , recently having joint muscle pains and discussing this with his doctor at present but is temporarily off them for a period and so far is feeling better but I think his doctor wishes him to go back on them after stopping for a while to see if the pains return.
