Candesartan and back pain

Anyone experienced back pain while taking this drug. I was previously on ramipril but developed a cough and since I already had sarcoidosis in lung before heart attack I asked to swop I may of course be clutching at straws between the usual rock and hard place with medication!

I was put on ramipril due to my heart attack which the cause wasn’t established apart from the damage caused by my first cardiac arrest.

I was told it could help reduce my heart size which I found incredible but I’m that seems to be true.

My then GP hadn’t known of the heart remodelling but I’ve never had a ramipril cough.

Ramipril does apparently help cardiac & kidney patients. Maybe the side effects are too much for some folks.

Get well soon.

Hi Ben, Yes I have had terrible side effects with Candesartan. So bad that after only 2 tablets I had to stop taking them on doctors orders. The side effects were truly awful. First was the 'runs' then I developed shivers, heart palpitations, headache, back ache and weak limbs along with nausea. It was rapid and deeply unpleasant... so much so that I almost called an ambulance. The reason I came off Ramipril, was the terrible nightmares... apparently quite common, along with low blood pressure when I already have low pressure. I would never take another candesartan but I understand there are three other options to try if wanting to replace both Ramipril and Candesartan. I have not tried any of the others as my doctor is convinced I don't actually need them. Ask for a change and see if it helps.

Yes I have back pain and dizzy. Went to gp yesterday to ask for it to be changed. He said as I couldn't take ramipril due to cough I developed he wouldn't change it again as would have to wean me off it. No help from him but I'm not giving up .

Hi, Ive been on 8mg Candesartin for around 19 years as my body couldn't cope with Ramipril, but then everyone is different in their response to medications. Maybe talk to your GP about trying something differnet and see if the back pain goes away.
