My GP suggested some years ago that, because my husband has an "irregularly irregular" (no pattern) heart rhythm, a pacemaker wouldn't help him. Hoping that this isn't still the case?

Hi
I have had the irregular regular heart rate and the regular irregular I am sure that's how it has been described !!!
Mind you I can go from an Ectopic every other beat, to one every two , one every three, one every four and when it gets to one every 5 it settles down again.. Weird thing these Heart rates LOL
Always been told they are Uncomfortable but not Life Threating

Have you got a pacemaker? Confused, because consultant now says he needs one....
Thank you. Just a bit confused as cardiologist is now suggesting he should have one.
If you have a cardiologist I would listen carefully to him or her in preference to GP. A GP is jack of all trades and part of his job consists of referring patients onto the relevant specialist who then looks at your problems in detail. If you can get to see a cardiologist in the present situation you are doing very well.
I have an irregular heartbeat as well. Thoroughly confused the paramedics when i collapsed as the rate was going from 40 to 140 and swirling around within a minute. The cardiologist told me that due to the irregularity, a pacemaker would not be of any help; it couldn't cope with the ups and downs. She seemed to suggest that it wasn't designed to deal with that.
I’ve had mine for over 20 years since my 40s. It is worse now and have been told by cardio that I may well get AF at some stage. Regular (can’t say how often) 24-48 ecg is needed which GP can arrange. Not life threatening unless AF diagnosed in which case anticoagulants needed to prevent stroke.
Hi,Due to heart failure (EF of 28%) I was experiencing irregular irregular patterns.
Went onto AF and received cardioversion. After that I was given an ICD. It has corrected rhythms hundreds of times now and also delivered full blown defibrilation (single figures).
For me an ICD has been a great help.
Your husband's cardiologist will know what's best for him though.
Stay safe
