Any advice on isolated ectopic heart beats? Mine happen every few days only last seconds and I just get a slight palpitation.
I have congenital heart disease which I’m under specialist for. I’ve had ecg and 24 hour ECG which only showed sinus tachycardia which consultant isn’t worried about! Are theses ectopics anything to worry about? I’m have many issues with anxiety. The only reason I’m aware of these is because I have a cardio tracker. The information out there is sort of conflicting

A friend got ectopics under control by eliminating coffee, chocolate, alcohol and spicy food from his diet. Eliminating stress, another trigger, is harder. Smoking and recreational drugs are a total no-no.
I guess being more stressed lately and more sensitive to me body I’ve noticed them more. Thank you for advice I’ve cut a lot of stuff out and hopefully this will improve
Well, 2 coffees only in the morning usually, otherwise the ticker starts developing a mind of it's own, then wife limits me to 2 squares of dark choccy a day, only the best though and definitely no palm oil involved, Montezuma's brand is excellent. Have to say as vegetarians we eat a lot of Indian based food and do like a bit of spice although not over the top, and I do try and stick to the 14 units a week recommendation, some weeks it's harder than others!
I have never had ectopics until I started eating Montezumas 100%. I also take citalopram so not sure. Tea definitely triggers it even more than coffee.
Hi there,I know that ectopic beats can be uncomfortable and frightening. I used to have thousands every day, although since being treated for other cardiac issues they have disappeared. I agree with MichaelJH that cutting out caffeine, alcohol and chocolate helps a lot.
Anxiety will definitely make them worse. You might have already been told this - I know I was told by lots of different people but I have found focusing on my breathing and consciously trying to relax helps. It is clichéd advice but meditation and yoga really make a difference to me.
Yes I’m pretty positive that anxiety, worry and panic make all things seem worse then what they may or may not be, yes I do try and practice calming techniques daily but nothing much seems to help me, even before my diagnosis I’ve suffered with this cycle of health anxiety I guess! I’m just wondering when is it enough kinda feel just helpless
I’ve had ectopic beats definitely since my HA but I think I used to get them before, I just wasn’t so switched on to the feeling.
I’ve read a lot about foods and stimulants making them worse but it’s not the case for me. Mine are definitely anxiety, I had them hundreds of times a day until my GP said they are benign and nothing to worry about, after that they instantly stopped.
Raise it with your Cardiologist and get them to explain what they are and you won’t be as worried.
I’ve had ectopics for many years. Sometimes more noticeable than others.I've had them investigated and have accepted that they are nothing to worry about and are a part of me.
This may sound a bit weird but when I feel them now instead of waiting for the next one, I smile and treat them like a friend. Taking this view has certainly helped.
You say you the only reason you are aware of them is because you have a cardio tracker, is this something you need for your heart complaint?
If not, then may I suggest it may not be helping. If you need your tracker then unless you check it all the time, the event has already happened and passed.
If you are still worried do tell your cardiologist, longer tapes are available.
Hi thank u for ur reply, this is a good idea tryingTo embrace the ectopic rather then panic! Haven’t tried that one yet!
Well the cardio tracker was more for helping me with piece of mind but honestly I’ve become obsessed with checking heart rate and rhythm hence why I also know I have ectopics most days ur probably right I need to cut it down and eventually out completely
How long have you had them for. When I get one I panic. They all feel so different. Long deep thumps for 2 min now im walking with my hand in my throat. I hate them
I've had them on & off for years. I've found the more I except and ignore them the less I get. I got them checked out, had all the holter tests, ecg etc. so knew there was nothing wrong
Have you had them checked out though? That's the first step.
In case you haven't already look at You tube Sanjay Gupta on the subject. I am at present doing a 7 day holter with him to try and get a better handle on mine. It may not happen but they are the final thing after AVR keeping me from feeling well. I find they vary so much as well. I get some really weird ones. Hey ho.
Hi Char1985. I have a 40 history of many arrhythmia incl paroxismal sinus tach, Afib and a history of ectopics since a teen. Now 77 and still experience. In isolation they are generally totally benign and present no health danger but of course extremely annoying and to some folk frightening. At one point, many years ago, I was the subject of a "study" as every (apx) 10th beat was an ectopic for days at a time. Paradoxically if I exercised or played badminton, they would decrease and spontaneously stop. It took me a long time to accept they were not dangerous. I wish you the very best with the other issues.
