My Mam had a double heart bypass in July 2019 after CA and many HAs over a 6 year period. Her body just didnt like her stents! She has recovered well and is doing more more than I've seen her do in years, which is great. She has had her blood thinners removed from her med list, however is still on aspirin every day. Has anyone also gone through a reduction in meds? She's a little worried about it so thought I'd ask here. Many thanks, Kerry.

Reduction in blood thinners
I have had a pill reduction recently, and have felt much better! Less symptoms. I conclude (maybe quite wrongly) that either my heart has improved (I’ve been exercising well, and lost weight), or the pills were causing some of my symptoms..
I'm pleased your symptoms are better! My Mam doesn't ask a lot of questions whereas I'm far too nebby and want to know why 🙂. Take care and stay safe x
When you say blood thinners what do you actually mean. Because this term is used for both anti platelet and anticoagulant therapy which are different Us professionals hate the term blood thinners because it gives rise to these sort of muddles. I was at a training once where the senior cardiac nurse told someone off for using the term as it doesn’t even describe what the medication does.
Sorry if I have offended you... I'm not medical at all and the only experience I have is from the patient side. I have no idea what kind they are but will find the name of the drug and do a bit of research.
I’m not offended at all. And I hope I didn’t offend you. The advice for and use of the two different types of ‘blood thinners’ is quite different.
I'm pleased you've mentioned so I can double check! I need her to ask more questions when she speaks to her doctor.
Some patients can be passive out of fear. They’re afraid they won’t understand all the technicalities and may see the professional as a sort of ‘god’. They’re not and they should make themselves accessible to their patients. As a patient myself I always write down all my questions and the answers. As a pharmacist I try to work with my patients (I’m now currently on 111) so they can take more responsibility for their health.
