Anomoly with Home Devies in HR - how?

So, as is the case when i get up, i took my BP reading using our home BP Device which gave an HR reading of 62bpm. Then, i took a 6 lead reading with the Kardia Alive Cor Home ECG device that gave me an HR reading of 132bpm.

That's quite a difference - not sure what to make of it, and it leaves me questioning the reliability of such devices to record my heart vitals...

Of course, it could just be my AF playing up!

Very fast hr can throw off lesser devices, as in 180 and upwards, but 132bpm shouldn’t do so, and not with a bp monitor unless it’s really cheap and cheerful? I’d say either your AF triggered between the two readings, or one of your devices is squiff and needs some attention.

sit down and take 3 readings on rising and record them, do the same again mid afternoon , and again in the evening. Do it for about 3 days and then average the whole set.

Sorry? Think you meant to reply to the post, not my comment, lol!

i was considering both options, prior to Covid, i could easily arrange to check devices against Cardiology Clinic kit - but of course no more. As for AF, this is a relatively new condition for me, so am still learning about it, its symptoms etc.

Never rely on a device for your HR reading. We were using the BP monitor provided by my husband's nurse, the same one they use in hospitals, and that was giving us readings in the 70's when in reality his HR taken manually was low 50's dipping into 40's. Most nurses take your HR manually even when using a BP monitor.

I’ve long said it’s the only reliable method - even fingertip SpO2 monitors tend to be noticeably out compared to a manual reading.

Sadly, i do not seem to have the ability to take manual HR readings, despite much patience on the part of clinicians to teach me. I am still experiencing issues from my surgery back in July 2020 which have resulted inme givign up my driving licence - so these devices are part of the investigation in to what is goin on and how to fix it. With no visits to Cardiology because of Covid - this is all we have at the moment. I can't even get an ECG reading done at the clinic...

Have they tried at your throat? I can’t take my pulse at my wrist (can rarely find it there, and even if I do, I often lose it again), but I can find my carotid pulse with very little issue so use that.
