My dad had an ICD implant last October and he’s awaiting a hip replacement operation, does anyone know if a cardiologist needs to be present during the op and or do they need to consider /prepare anything different when you have an ICD fitted and have other surgery procedures.
Thank you in advance!

My understanding is the surgeon doing the hip replacement would deactivate the ICD before surgery, but only after consultation with the cardiologist responsible for the implantation of the device. An inappropriate shock produced while undergoing surgery would not be permitted. If the device also pacing then it came be allowed to continue to pace but have any defibrillation turned off.Hope the surgery goes well.
