Optopic heart beats and spasms

I have been told I’m having optopic heat beats which have gradually increased since October to a point where I couldn’t move without experiencing one. They have gradually got stronger and I get breathless at the same time. The cardiologist put me on emconcor which I have taken for 1 week but he has now told me today to change to Tildiem as after I had a catheter artery check he believed I was experiencing spasms. I have started these today and suffered with several optopic beats, has anyone else experienced similar and if so how long would you allow for things to settle down?

Hi , I've been on Tildiem (200) for 3 weeks now for coronary spams. initially I felt they weren't making a difference, but then around the the two week mark the seemed to have reduced the severity of the spams ,but hasn't stopped them. I find I suffer a few hours of smaller spasms at a time and have no idea whats triggering them.

I think I may have to increase the dose and have an appointment with the doc tomorrow so really looking for help as this is wearing me down.

Hope this helps a little and good luck

Hello Bowe

I have lived with Vasospastic angina the term now used to describe coronary artery spasms for over 8 years.

I also have vasospasms in my small coronary blood vessels too.

Diltizem is a calcium channel blocker which relaxes the coronary blood vessels and helps prevent the spasms which can be very painful.

I suggest if your palpitations continue that you contact your Cardiologist. There are alternative medications to treat palpitations and ectopic beats if you have vasospastic angina.

Beta blockers are not usually prescribed if you have vasospastic angina as they can make your vasospasms worse.

It can be a balancing act to find the best combination to treat your heart conditions.

Vasospastic angina is often overlooked and poorly understood by Cardiologists

The BHF has this information about vasospastic angina.
