Hi everyone . I had a HA on dec 1st , ambulance to hospital ,blood tests showed i had a HA, was put on cardio ward and a few days later had angiogram. Drs decided the best option was for bypass surgery. I was sent home after 10 days as even though at high risk of another HA they said it was safer to wait at home due to covid. I met with my surgeon today and hes hoping the wait will be 2/3 months. Im 57 and type 1 diabetic and have hardening of the arteries. Im finding peoples posts on here very informative and helpful .x

Hello and welcome to the forum!

My MO is somewhat similar as I had a quadruple bypass in 2018 after decades of diabetes. I have been Type I since childhood. My surgeon said my issues were hereditary (my father, his brother and their father all died prematurely of heart attacks) complicated by diabetes.

The best advice I can give is take any perscribed medication, exercise within the guidelines from your GP/cardiologist and aim for a brilliant HbA1c! Walking within the aforementioned guidelines is very important as many diabetics have a degree of PAD (peripheral arterial disease) and this can worsen with sitting around.

Please feel free to PM me if you wish.

I know you will get a lot of help on here. It is a lovely safe place to ask questions. Ask away and someone going or will have already gone through similar will contact you.

Also don’t forget the lovely BHF Cardiac Nurses who are on the end of the phone. They have been a great help to me with the medical side.

Good luck and welcome to the Hearties.

Hi tez666. I currently do not work. Do you have a cardiac nurse you can call ? . My cardiac nurse has said for me only to do walking and light housework . I musnt do any strenuous exercise while waiting for bypass. I'm the same age as you . Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer 😀
