Amlodipine and urination

I’ve been on 5mg of Amlodipine for a month then increased to 7.5mg for another month and am experiencing the need to urinate every 2hrs or so .... I’ve spoke to GP who says this is not related to this medication... does anyone have a similar side effect???

I take a whole range of heart medication and the same happened to me. Check your other medication to see if they are diuretics.

Amlodipine is a CCI (calcium channel inhibitor). The most common side effect of these is oedema. I was prescribed Indapamide, a diuretic, to counteract this. This caused irritatingly frequent trips to the bathroom. As Edwen_ mentioned is there a diuretic in your medication as frequent urination is not a side effect of Amlodipine. If not I would suggest your GP checks kidney function and for a UTI.

It isn’t the amlodipine. If you have to urinate every couple of hours during the night then you should be looking for what the cause is.
