Angioedema and Hives

Hi everyone

I’m now 9 months on from HA and 2 stents in RCA, and have been on the usual swag of drugs with some side effects, mainly tightness in chest and stomach aches. We reduced the Statin to just 10mg (All lipids are now excellent) to see if this was the culprit, but still getting the stomach aches and chest tightness. In addition, I’m now getting bouts of angioedema (swollen eyes, lips and tongue) and hives (mainly hands and feet) which are treated within a day with antihistamine, but will return again. So we have now swapped out the Ticagrelor for clopidogrel to see if there is an improvement.

Anyone out there with a similar experience who found out which of their drugs was the problem?

Thanks

Squash

Hi yes I have been on various drugs since bypass in March, I am now off clopidogrel as I too suffer with little rashes and I have to take antihistamines, and rash is worse when I get hot.Cardiology feel it should be ok to come off clopidogrel as I have been on for 9 months, but of course better for you to speak to your cardiology dept/GP

Will let you know if clopidogrel is the culprit

Hey Squash you and i both heart attack two stents and i will be 9 months Jan 3. My cardiologist and the womens special cardiology have agreed to end my taking of ticagrelor because of how strong it is and all the many side effects. I have had many including little blister like sores on my tongue and throat that come and go. Chest tightness, stomach and bowel pain, shortness of breath, taste buds come and go, tingling and numbing in arms, hands and feet, palputations etc. Many things plus the crazy bleeding and bad headaches come and go. Needless to say it and asa are all that i am on right now so pretty sure i can pin most of the nasty side effects on the ticagrelor. I will probably try statins one more time after going off ticagrelor as i have high cholestrol but i am not holding my breath as crestor, lipitor in different strengths and now ezetimbe have also been terrible for side effects. Let us know how clopidogrel (plavix) works for you.

Hi Scotsrish

Thank you for your reply and great information! I’m also getting some of the other side effects you mention (blisters on the tongue and shortness of breath) sounds like the Ticagrelor, but I should know within 2 weeks. It’s just weird that it has taken 9 months for the side effects to manifest. I’ll let you know how the clopidogrel goes

Regards

Pretty harsh drug on the liver so maybe your liver is struggling now with it but could handle it better in the begining. I tried liver herbs while on it and it was not a good idea. Once off i will try again

HiI developed very bad angioedema due to ramipril, without the hives. I had to stop it suddenly after three weeks as the swelling was in my throat by then. I got it everywhere, eyes, face, throat, even stomach and gut. I'm still trying to get rid of it after nearly 6 months as it's only going away slowly. Are you on this drug?
