I think water is best. Not milk. Cant go wrong with water.

I make my porridge in the microwave with unsweetened almond milk. Very few calories. Lovely taste. Alpro is good. Morrisons own is much cheaper.

Scott’s porridge with low fat milk. Never ever with water would be tasteless. Took me long enough not to salt 🧂 but slowly got used to that. Being Scottish not easy to change

I use semi skimmed, for myself and husband, I don’t have a colestral problem though he did until statins sorted it out. Have to agree with gilreid1 having it without salt was the hardest bit.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Personally I use skimmed milk. However the milk one uses has to be part of a bigger picture with appropriate lifestyle changes. Why not introduce yourself more. We are a generally friendly and supportive bunch.

I use BoB milk (best of both) very low fat as in below 1 percent but taste like full fat milk. Yellow top and is in the larger supermarkets.

I actually added cranberry juice by mistake one day and it tasted lovely

I have added half a teaspoon of coffee (with skimmed not cranberry) - great taste!

Hi, I used to detest porridge until my cholesterol , BP and pre-diabetic risks were creeping up. Now I have Ready Brek with Alpro Light milk. Love it now, never bothered too much with salt anyway. Good Luck!

Oat milk or almond milk are both good with porridge

I use semi skimmed. A friend makes hers with water but adds blueberries and some honey for flavour.

Use semi-skimmed for everything now, fine with porridge and I usually add some fruit (berries) and honey.

I make my porridge with water, and put in a few raisins or other dried fruit.

Hi, due to having migranes quite a lot, I was told to come of dairy, so I have soya milk. It took a while to find one I liked. This has helped tremendously, even though light also causes me to have migranes (photosensitivity). But hardly any now. I also add a bit of fruit to my porridge, and I only by the little sachets, as not really keen on porridge. Regards Dee.

If you're asking about alternatives to cow's milk, I've tried various ones (usually stacked with UHT cartons in supermarket aisles) and I've found that Oat Milk is the creamiest, so possibly best for your porridge. I drink a lot of tea, and don't want that to taste creamy, so I use Rice Milk - for both tea and breakfast cereal, including porridge. I found Soya Milk had a strong flavour of its own, which altered the flavour of anything you mixed it with. I've never tried Almond Milk, or any of the others, as I know that there's a lot of fat in nuts, which I assume you'll need to avoid.

I've started to make mine with water now. I did used to use semi skimmed. As my diabetic control wobbled a bit in recent weeks (dunno why)!, my GP recommended whole wheat oats with a bit of bran thrown in. Surprisingly tasty even if it sounds awful!!Good luck with your cholesterol levels. I've been on statins for 30 years so mine in a decent level with drugs!

All the very best.

Hi Jan Never bought whole wheat oats, is it easy to get hold of? Like the sound of that with the bran.

If I can advertise? .. Waitrose do a lovely huge bag for about £1.20. The bran gives it a nutty sort of flavour. This is wholewheat with added bran

Eating oats is more important than the variety of milk. Diet has very little effect on blood cholesterol. Less meat, more fruit and veg will be better.

I make it with water and put full fat milk on it, I have osteoporosis, it has to be Scott's porridge 😋 unfortunately I can't eat it without salt!
