Hi

As I have reached the 6 week post op Mitral Valve Surgery, just thought I would update on my journey.

Cardiologist signed me off as fit & well.

Wounds healed, sternum getting stronger ( open heart surgery) & just taking Bisoprolol 1.25mg daily & Aspirin 75 mg + Lansoprazole.

Commenced cardiac rehab programme at home ( due to COVID restrictions not doing them in hospital) sent by physio who will keep in touch

Can now drive & pretty much do most things but still taking it easy with the lifting & resting when need to.

It’s been a straightforward journey in anything but a straightforward situation with cancellations, COVID restrictions/testing/ worrying& self isolating on & off for the past 7 months.

But I’ve got here in one piece & moving on to a full & active life.

I wish everyone well in their journey & can’t thank this forum enough for all the support & encouragement you have given me

Best wishes

That’s so good to hear. Nothing very straightforward, these days, but your recovery sounds great. Onwards and upwards!

Great read, keep going you will get there. Remember listen to your body if you feel tired rest. Best wishes for a great recovery Pauline

That is great news. I am waiting for Mitral valve replacement surgery. Similar story to you this year with delays due to Covid. I have now got my appt with surgeon on 11th December. Can I ask if the type of valve they could used was discussed with you or did you have to go with their recommendation? I’m thinking of going with tissue valve as I am sensitive to sound and I have heard that the mechanical one ‘ticks’.

HiThe surgeon said it was my choice whether I wanted a mechanical valve that would need lifetime of warfarin but once replaced that would be it, or see if he could repair it & not be on medication long term if all went well. I trusted his expertise to give the repair a go & get back to ‘normal’ post op. He did manage to repair my own valve without using any alternative. I will be under a cardiologist long term to keep an eye on it...

I wish you luck for your appointment & hopefully you won’t have to wait too long for the op. The waiting is definitely the worst bit.
