Hi, not sure if you have had one before but angiogram is not too bad, and it gives the cardiologist an accurate view of what is going on, ct scan can give them an idea but not as accurate.

Hi Thank you for responding, never had one before.I just assumed that all was ok as I wasn't contacted after CTscan Friend was contacted within 24 hours and advised that she had 3 blockages I didn't hear anything until yesterday

I was admitted three years ago with shoulder pain, had my first angiogram after a few days, I didn't have a ct before. I guess you had the ct looking for causes of chest pains?

Hi.,sorry did they find anything on your angiogram and are you ok?

Hi, I had no warning signs and even when I had my heart attack I wasn't breathless, even completed my night shift at work lol, it's a good thing they are investigating for you. Has your breathlessness got worse? The angio could rule out cardiac causes so it would give you some peace of mind if all good maybe?

Yes, I thought I was all good .Seems a waste of time, given friend could do with more treatment I hope all good for you

Hi, had angiogram,no severe blockages -so no stents Sadly though ,had problems went through wrist but vain to close to nerve., so body kept on jumping and was a little paingul like constant electric shock. After several attempts went in via groin.Need to continue with meds and be reviewed in 3 months Very good news but not really fussed on angiogram haha

Hi. Yes it happened to me. Had CT angiogram in the summer and now having angiogram this Friday. My CT angiogram was blurred as my heart rate dropped too fast. I am awaiting valve replacement and they want to make sure that my arteries are ok otherwise it’s a bypass as well. This is all because of radio therapy I had nearly 30 years ago 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for responding.I hope your feeling ok and they don't find any blockages

Yes, i had several angiograms before my full diagnosis

HI thanks for response What was the end diagnosis, why did it take so many

Hi, there are a few types of angiograms, if a more detailed one is required they will do a CTangiogram, I had a shadow on the first one so they did CTangiogram for further investigation, that confirmed the shadow was a 99% blockage which required urgent surgery. Try not to worry about having another angiogram as this may only so the consultant can have better clearer images

I had a CT angiogram followed by an angiogram - which showed different things to CT. I was told the CT isn’t particularly accurate. They got one of my arteries wrong by 50% and two by 20%. So one was worse than expected and two were better. All good in the end. Stented in July and better than before now except for SE from meds. A small price to pay

Hi Jenny

Without wishing to hijack the thread, can I ask if you were ever told why the CT was so inaccurate. I know from my CT that there is a relatively wide margin for each category but your experience suggests your's was a long way out. As you say, at least it was rectified in time!

Best wishes

Glad, you are well. The reason I started the thread is because I had heard nothing from the angigram CT and justcwondered if they did the cathatheter one just to double check

I didn’t ask. Which was a bit silly. My RCA was 50% blocked on CT but when they did my first angiogram they said it was 100% blocked and I needed the specialist team to stent it. Now I guess it could have blocked up 50% more because there was a delay between the two due to Covid but I doubt it. I think there’s a difference as CT scan uses radioactive dye whereas angiogram uses dye and a physical catheter.

Thanks. I was just curious. I agree that it seems unlikely to be disease progression in that time. I was interested because my cardiologist said that, in his experience, CT tends to over estimate blockages. Glad you were treated successfully and are recovering well. Good luck.

That's good to hear re over estimation I pressured they had decided to do the angiogram because they had found nothing I phoned my GP but they said can't help

I think they thought there would be an overestimation until the angiogram was done when it was discovered to be a significant underestimation. They were expecting to stent and realised they didn’t have the skill set at that point. All good now except for the Damocles sword that is lp(a) but that’s a different story

i had a CT angiogram in April which i was told showed mild/moderate furring of LAD.. then found out 3 weeks ago an angiogram has been arranged.. there’s some doubt that the CT was correct and the Cardiologist wants an invasive angiogram to rule out severe obstruction .. got a phone call today from Golden Jubilee Hospital.. angiogram to be carried out on 7December

I had CT in August/September but wasn't contacted afterwards,so I assumed nothing was wrong The angiogram came out of the blue.Fingers crossed for you

Hi I had my angiogram today No stenting required The CT angiogram showed severe blockages. The angiogram was better so no stenting Good luck on the 7th fingers crossed Take care

When I reported angina-like pains to my local hospital (in Thailand) 18 months ago potential heart concerns showed up via blood test (high troponin levels). Further tests and observation resulted in a catheterization ('invasive angiogram') recommendation. I then chose follow up at a well-rated Bangkok private hospital's heart unit. The cardiologist there reviewed all my history and my recounting of how the pains were and how they developed. He thought I was low risk for interventional surgery (stenting or bypass) and so recommended a 'Coronary CT scan with contrast', rather than an angiogram . I assume this is what people on HU are calling a CT angiogram?

The Coronary CT scan showed that his risk analysis was too optimistic (but seemed properly based on my retirement level of fitness and diet/non-smoker lifestyle). So I was transferred to the surgeon and after a confirming and more detailed angiogram I had a triple bypass.

If your angiogram does reveal the need for further interventional work I'm here to say that it is by no means the end of the world! While it's no doddle, I didn't find the operation that difficult to cope with. Surgeons do this stuff like falling off a log these days. Life goes on.
