Angiogram

Well today was my third angiogram. Was,nervous this morning before I went. The staff at basildon were very good. Ended up having another stent this time in the right artery. Wish I had had a bit more sedation as it was quite uncomfortable. In a way I was pleased I had to have another stent as at least I know I wasn't wasting everyone time. Now good excuse to take it easy for a couple of weeks

Hi glad you had your stent hopefully you can now recover and enjoy life. I too am under Basildon but I’m being treated with medication for blockage in Lad. Good luck going forward x

May I ask about sedation please. Hopefully soon I will have angiogram. I am very concerned as I am claustrophobic. Does sedation just relieve any pain or will it also help calm me right down and possibly fall asleep?

What you think?

I was sedated for my procedure and definitely helped relax/calm me. You need to stay awake as medics talk to you throughout. They are generally excellent & v reassuring though. Good luck.

I meant to say I am also VERY claustrophobic (cannot fly ✈️ , use lift, sedated for MRI etc) but mildly sedated I didnt have any probs at all re claustrophobia with this procedure. 👍🏽

Thank you so much for that reassurance. I do feel better about it all now.I once had an MRI scan about 10 years ago now and only lasted about 25 secs or so!

Sunday week I have a full aorta CT scan. I'm a bit apprehensive about that too. I had one few weeks ago and managed ok as it only lasted about 5 mins but still felt a bit claustrophobic.

Shortly after that I have a Carotid Vascular Ultrasound arranged. Hope I survive that too.

I really appreciate your reassurance and thank you.

The carotid vascular scan is ok. It's a bit like a baby scan. Put gel on your neck and run the little hand held scanner up your neck. Not had one myself but sat with a few patients when I volunteered on our local stoke ward and took patients down to vascular lab

No need to be claustrophobic with angiography as you lay on your back on table in Cath isn't not enclosed like c.t or m.r.I scan Catheter in one arm where they the contrast eye and sedation and right wrist rests on support as thats, the, one they put catheter up. Have sedation as it relaxes you and the veins in your arm and makes it easier to get the wire up. The x day machine. Moved up and down to take the pictures of the arteries. I felt quite a bit of tugging but recreation definitely helps. Good luck I hope it goes well

Take care. I asked for more sedation a couple of times and, was given it, so I was lucky.

Maybe the right is always more painful? I barely noticed my first stent insertion in the left, but needed Paracetamol when I was recovering from the right insertion in the day-ward.
