morning friends. just had to put up that iv been awarded pip. don’t know what levels yet as haven’t received notification yet but there’s a big chunk of money in my bank account from dwppip. i can’t believe it but really relieved. i really didn’t think i would be entitled to it as i don’t tend to think i’m that unwell. if not for my friend keeping hounding me i would never have applied. so a nice happy note to end the week. have a great weekend everyone from a very grateful lady🤣yes i’m a lady todY❤️shiona

That’s great news, my husband got awarded Attendance Allowance a few weeks ago and that was back dated, it’s a bit of a surprise when it appeared in the bank account before we received the paper work, have a lovely weekend, if like us smiling.😊Pauline

Thanks for asking Shiona. Things have been a bit stressful but we've recently had a really positive appt with cardiologist who agreed that, subject to some blood test results, he doesn't see why Kevin can't have his cancer treatment. I'm not the most patient person, l hate waiting for results & the bloods were only taken a week ago!! 😂

Was your PIP backdated, hence the big chunk of money? Xx

Do you mind me asking if it was for heart ? Trying to work out what to do xx

I was awarded my PIP as I live with debilitating angina which is difficult to treat.

I would suggest getting help to fill the form in. Applying for my PIP was one of the most stressful things I have had to do.

Citizens Advice have some information.

Well done! ❤️I was awarded pip for 3 years and just had my re assessment 2 weeks ago... Dreading to find out what the decision is. Have a peaceful weekend xx

I had my assessment and I asked to see the report, the assessor wrote something’s I have objected to. He based a lot of his decisions on the fact that I said I could drive. Also said he couldn’t hear me out of breath on the phone whilst I was sat talking and that I could hold a mobile phone for half an hour in my hand before I became tired.I wrote back to the DWP to the decision maker with extra medical evidence and objections to what had been recorded. I have multiple conditions but the assessor said I didn’t discuss them all. I was awarded it in 2017 mainly for sarcoidosis but now have several other conditions to add to the pot the award is coming to an end, I am also a bit anxious .🙁

That's awful making you go through all that, how dare they say something like that, I hope everything will be ok and you will get the help you deserve, mine just got extended due to covid for 9 months so glad I was really worried about going through the assessment again, take care and keep us posted, fingers crossed you get it alright take care char

I'm terrified. My kids do the cooking at home, help me in and out of the bath and they have to come everywhere with me. My needs since I was awarded in 2017 have not changed. Yeah they are good at adding things into the report that you are unaware of. It will be 3 weeks this coming Tuesday since my re assessment.. not heard anything back yet xxx

Shoshov profile image
Shoshov in reply to TwinkleToes8348

you should hear soon if mines is anything to go by. it’s the whole waiting that wears you down. good luck with yours and try not to worry. easy for me to say now mines is settled but worrying doesn’t do us hearties any favours. good luck ❤️

When I changed from DLA to PIP I not only had to have a face to face assessment but it took 7 months to get their reply . Maybe they thought it wasn't urgent because I continued to get the DLA during the claim

Hi I am so happy to hear that, it took a bit of prodding from my bestie for me to apply and I got awarded the highest amount for both elements, what a difference it has made especially when I wasn't allowed to drive and needed taxes, I think us hearties underestimate how ill we actually are and just struggle on, mine has now been extended for 9 months before I have to reaply , no road tax and an automatic blue badge really makes a huge difference as well, take care char

Shoshov profile image
Shoshov in reply to Thanksnhs

thanks char. i too had to be prodded. i agree with not realising how ill we are. my friend was on at me for over a year before i did it as i wasn’t keen on puting myself through ithe process. i’d read so many horror stories about it. glad now i did and glad my experience was pretty much routine. just wish everyone had the same experience as me. maybe it’s a postcode lottery thing. have s great weekend. ❤️

IT is slightly better now than disability allowance was. For that you had to describe everything you could NOT do. believe me that was soul destroying to suddenly realise just how much you couldn't manage. I never considered there was anything odd in crawling upstairs on my hands and knees. I just did it; or sitting on the floor preparing food because I couldn't stand up; didn't everybody sit on the post office floor because they couldn't stand in a queue? To be asked whether you could wipe your own bottom in the toilet or how many times you had accidents was horrific. Now it focuses more on what you can do but that means people over estimate what they are capable of. The key statement is to be able or not to do something "repeatedly and without significant pain". If you could walk across a road once but couldn't get back means you can't do it repeatedly. If you could get upstairs but then had to lie down to recover - the same. It's not without significant pain but you have to know to emphasise that. A friend tried to get attendance allowance for her mum but said she could get upstairs to bed. The fact that her daughter had to lift each of her feet up each step and push her up never occurred to her.

Wow, well done. YOu must have sent a really good claim form. It's normally very difficult to get. Payments are always backdated to when you claimed

Shoshov profile image
Shoshov in reply to Qualipop

seems that way. never really filled in a form like it before as benefit system is all new to me. i feel really lucky going with what iv read of others experience ❤️

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply to Shoshov

Believe me you did well. I've been doing those forms for over 20 years and have had several turned down and had to go to tribunal 3 times despite just having got worse.

Shoshov profile image
Shoshov in reply to Qualipop

i personally think it’s disgusting the was people are treated in the benefit system. you read about it all the time but don’t really understand it until you need help. i really feel for you and others who have to go through this rubbish❤️

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply to Shoshov

Completely agree. Although I've been unable to work since 1985 they made me do the forms every two years. Mostly it got renewed but at least 3 times they turned it down completely and I had to go to appeal and then tribunal. I was never able to get a motability car because you have to have the benefit guaranteed for 3 years. I always won the tribunal but you are treated like dirt and made to feel you are trying to cheat the system. I was a teacher. I wish I could still be doing it. I would often send 11 extra pages of information including 3 pages of consultants I'd had to see. Sometimes it would take 9 months for a decision with no money until they'd done it. OK the backdated payment was lovely but what do you live on in the meantime? It's no wonder so many either don't appeal ( That's the idea - that people will give up if they make it too difficult) and so many commit suicide.

Do you mind me asking was it for heart ?? I have no idea what you can claim for with heart xxxx

Shoshov profile image
Shoshov in reply to Sootycat

hi sootycat. iv had heart attack so got coronary artery disease which has left me with low blood pressure which results in many dizzy spells a day. this was the main reason i claimed as i had to give up work as a driving instructor. also have bad diabetic neuropathy which again causes me many problems. also unstable angina which puts me in hospital regularly. im very symptomatic to cardiac meds and can’t take much due to BP lowering more vicious circle. hope this helps❤️

Well done to you for getting PIPs, I applied and rejected as no one informed me you have to be under 65 years of age, however with the forums insistence I applied for Attendance Allowance and have been granted the higher rate for both day and night, like yourself I don’t consider myself needing help in anyway but when you add all the negatives the extra payments are a great welcome.Be safe.
