Sharp pains under left breast

Morning all.

I've posted on here before regarding my heart palpitations and found it helpful so I'm turning back to you in hopes for some peace of mind.

So, last night I went to bed, fell asleep and then was woken by a sharp pain under my left boob when I turned over to lay on my back. So naturally I sat up so I could feel what was going off and this pain came and went with every breath, so I breathed in and it hurt but didnt hurt as much breathing out. When I laid down it hurt. So I sat half up and half down in bed in hopes that would knock it off but it didn't so spent half of the night awake 😴 I'm absolutely terrified of something being wrong with me so this didn't help my aniexty at all. I've been and had a chest Xray around 3 week ago and all clear. I've done 2 ECG and they didn't find anything wrong on either. I have had bloods done & also they said its clear. But I just don't understand why I keep having either pains under my boobs or in center of my chest.

My doctor prescribed me with Proponolol a week ago 10mg for 28 days to slow down my heart rate.

But now I have these pains. I just know that the Dr is going to say its aniexty and not listen but this isn't what it is. I was woken up by this pain... has anyone had anything similar? Should I be worried or should I forget about it?

Thanks 😊 xx

Does it hurt if you press the area concerned or your sternum ?

It doesnt hurt no but its uncomfortable.. the 2nd time I went to a&e with chest pains the nurse pressed the center of my chest and it was painful then but she didn't seem concerned 🤷‍♀️ i just know that I shouldn't be having palpitations or chest pains or a wheezy chest causing me to use my inhaler more and there be nothing wrong with me.

And its driving me insane because I have had tests and nothing showed up to be concerned about so now they all just think its aniexty or stress or not serious so I feel like I'm wasting everyone's time but having to put up with all these wierd things happening. I mean this could be just something completely natural but since I started the pains last night I got goosebumps but strangely only in my legs and its been constant non stop since last night but that could be irrelevant.

Just don't know what to do or when to know when its serious anymore and I know its an hard time for NHS as well so I feel I shouldn't really be wasting there time

Xx

Your never wasting anyone’s time. Chest pain should always be investigated throughly and in a timely manner. Keep pushing for tests etc until you get a firm diagnosis and treatment plan.

Did it feel like it might be a spasm ?

Doctor phoned me this afternoon and said he wasn't concerned and it could be a muscle spasm but until I'm sick or pass out then I havent to worry about it 🤷‍♀️

Its so difficult to not worry about it all though like I just don't understand why I would have constant chest pains...

I mean could this be something more serious and they haven't picked it up on my chest Xray who knows 🤔

This may not be relevant to you, but chest pain can be due to gastro oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) . I had several bouts of chest pain, one very severe, where I was told I'd had a heart attack. Turned out it was GORD and a hiatus hernia. Heart was structurally fine but the repeated attacks of GORD led to atrial fibrillation, which I still have. The oesophagus runs down very close to the back of the heart and if it starts to spasm it can irritate the heart. It could also be due to stress. I think you need to talk to your GP again.

Hi Natalie,

I don’t want to alarm, you but felt I need to tell you about my experience.

I have had experience of similar sharp pain under my left boob. It would come and go, worse if I took a sharp in breath. It was investigated, along with other symptoms by a gastroenterologist in 2014. I was told I had GERD and “functional dyspepsia”, basically indigestion. The pain continued, I used heat packs to soothe it, but thought no more about it.

In August this year I experienced a N Stemi heart attack and ended up having urgent double bypass surgery. After surgery the under boob pain disappeared except for the occasional twinge. When I mentioned the under boob pain to my heart surgeon, and how it had largely resolved after surgery, he said this type of pain is “highly significant”. I also learnt at this consultation that I have myocardial scarring which appears to have been caused by a previous “silent” heart attack; one that occurred without me knowing.

I had full heart tests (ECG, echocardiogram, Doppler ultrasound, heart CT scan) at the end of 2018, to investigate possible heart complications of a genetic connective tissue disorder, all of which came back ok, showed nothing of concern.

I have read that heart pain manifests differently in women and this under boob pain is one way it can do so. I now wonder if it was a type of angina. I only had central chest pain the day before my heart attack, which I put down to anxiety, and then the day it actually happened. I had had this under boob pain on and off for six years.

This is what point I'm trying to make to everyone that I'm not going crazy I'm genuinely feeling all these pains and that it shouldn't be happening. My chest in the center always feels heavy has done for weeks but again they have put it down to aniexty and stress. Doctors are telling me that I need to stop worrying or get councilling for aniexty because there is nothing wrong with me nor do they see it beneficial for me to have more tests done. So I'm kind of stuck!

My husband pays a percentage of his wage to Bupa family insurance and im considering trying to go private to see if I can get some answers that way. I need to look into though and understand what Is and isnt covered.

Even if it is nothing and turns out it was just stress or aniexty then fine I will deal with it loads better but to just shrug me off as "29yr old women" with an "healthy heart" (according to the Chest Xray) when im still having all these pains is just making me worse

Thanks for replying though its very interesting xx

Hi Natalie,

As you have private health insurance, it might well be worth asking your GP to refer you privately so you can get thoroughly checked out. Hopefully at your young age, you don’t have anything serious going on, but I can understand your anxiety.

I am 59, so a fair bit older than you so obviously my risk is much higher. I was in my early 50s when I developed the under boob pain. I also had high cholesterol for many years but it wasn’t thought necessary for me to be given statins. I understand oestrogen is thought to protect pre-menopausal women from heart disease, and this was the thinking at the time. In hindsight I wish I had pushed for statins sooner.

If you can get the private referral, I hope you find some reassurance.
