Hi All,

Sorry if this is a stupid question but has anyone had any issues having an MRI scan with the metal wire in their sternum post heart-bypass?

Thanks

The wires are made from either 316 stainless steel or Titanium neither metals are magnetic so I would not have thought a problem. I also would not think they would do a MRI if any danger

Thanks Gilreid, I figured that was probably the case but good to know!

Hi,

I had open heart surgery and 12 months later a MRI scan with no bother. 😊

Hello there. I have a mechanical aortic valve (St Jude) and had open heart surgery in December 2019. After checking with my cardiologist team, I had an MRI scan some two months ago with no problems.
