I have a pacemaker and definitely know it when I've done to much, I desperately need to muck out my chicken houses but know I will pay for it afterwards as all the stretching and shifting straw bales will be a step to far, hey ho needs must.
Hi mine was fitted 2 yrs ago and I haven’t experienced your symptoms however I do things in short bursts to ensure I don’t over do it. I am retired so do have time on my hands however I make sure that I do some work and then have a coffee and just sit and relax. I’m not sure there is a right or wrong answer I do think it is what suits you best
Good luck
Hi Huskybb, I'm 5 months post ICD. I haven't had your systems and I'm now very active again. Cycle a lot but started gradually and invested in a heart monitor, which I use when ever I cycle just to ensure I'm not over doing it. I'm sure you're just experiencing similar muscular pains you would have if you didn't have ICD and you hadn't mucked out for a while. It might not suit your other activities but heart monitor gives me peace of mind that I'm staying within my limits.
Hi Gordon which heart monitor do you have? I have a fitbit but stopped wearing it after my cardiac arrest and not sure if I can wear again
Hi,
I have Polar H10 - the cardio rehab team told me they used Polar, so I took that as good endorsement. Initially I used it with my phone and an app called Polar Beat. Then got Polar V650 computer for use on bike - fits on handlebars and communicates with H10 via bluetooth.
Initially I just wanted to see my heart beat to make sure I wasn't over doing it. It is also useful for showing improvement/progress - over few months it shows reduction in max/average heart rate for same rides. I have found it a worthwhile investment. From what I've read, watches which measure pulse rate are not very accurate. I'm happy to stick with chest strap etc.
All best
Gordon
Thank you I will have a look into them.
Many Thanks
Should have added, the Polar H10 works with other manufacturers equipment - you don't have to buy a Polar computer - it will work with Garmin and Wahoo devices including their watches etc. and if you have a smartphone it will work with that (after you download app).
It's turned me into a bit of a 'stat' nerd, but it helps with motivation to keep going out on bike when weather is less than good.
best wishes
Gordon
Hi Husky. After 7 months, it's unlikely you've done any harm to the ICD. You've probably just overdone it using muscles that haven't done much for 7 months. Rest for a couple of days, and if it hasn't improved, get in touch with your electro-physicist (the team that fitted the ICD). xx
I have an ICD which was fitted in September. I used to do a lot of exercise and walk lots . On Saturday I wanted to get out of the house so went to a supermarket with my husband. Usually do online groceries shop. There were a few other shops open so we had a look in those too. When I got back to the car I had chest pains and pain around the ICD and shoulder. It did ease but I was scared and find whenever I overdo it I get pain around the device and in my shoulder. I also get very tearful too do you?
