I have a throat toad'

Hello lovely peeps wondered if i can pick your brains please? I've developed a new special effect and I'm not sure of the cause and just wondered if anyone else has this? perhaps it's meds?

My throat makes a noise ... t's not a burp ...

Not a hiccup ...

No 'frog' in my throat!

I'm not sure if the wind is sucked in, or maybe it is expelled?

Im not sure , but it is noisy and gone from being novel to being slightly annoying !

I have to tip my head back slightly, to release it, otherwise it becomes a little uncomfortable but not painful

I blame everything on medication but I am clueless really

It could be meds or diet OR maybe ... just maybe

i do genuinely have a toad in my throat ?!

Hi   Cymrucurious

Just a thought. Have you tried antacids such as Gaviscon to see if that relieves it? As you mentioned it’s not quite a burp, and you’re not sure if it’s your diet. Indigestion can cause excess belching and flatulence.

Hi Tos92.. .. I guess I could give gaviscon a go but I'm loathe to take any additional medication really .. maybe a natural alternative would work ?I'm already taking an array of drugs, since my recent takotsubo cardiac event , plus I have medicated epilepsy ..

I think it is diet and you could very well be right and I do appreciate your reply

I’m sorry to hear of your takotsubo cardiac event. There are others on the forum who have experienced the same thing so I hope they will be along to help with your query if they can.

I’m also reluctant to take more meds than I usually have to. Perhaps you can look at increasing your intake of oatmeal and brown rice. Vegetables such as beetroot, sweet potatoes and broccoli are also other food options that can reduce the amount of acid in the stomach if it is an indigestion issue.

No don’t take Antacids, makes indigestion worse! You probably don’t have over production of stomach acid. I had a choking swallowing issue, it was the Verapamil Was on! Go to drs for change of medication

unfortunately my husband has a similar thing. He says his is an intake of air he has no control over. The grandkids say he sounds like a donkey! Like you say, amusing at first but no joke as it is so loud it is embarrassing and can get uncomfortable. We too put it down to meds. He’s tried Gaviscon and his doctor tried doubling his dose of Omeprazole but neither have made a difference, so he stopped taking them as he takes enough already. I hope you find something that works for you. Sorry I can’t offer a solution.

I have developed a similar side effect to heart medication. I was warned it might happen. Mine is a bubbling and sometimes a burning sensation just lower than the throat. I was told it is a form of indigestion. Something I have never suffered from before. I have an additional medication called peptic liquid an alternative to gaviscon. It tastes like aniseed but does the trick. Good luck.

Hi Cymrucurious,

Reading your post I'm wondering whether you have kept a note of when this occurs. Is it after taking your medication or a meal or between times? Is there any correlation between what you put into your body... food, drink, medication.... and this occurence?

Most of us taking medication suffer one way or another. I cannot take PPIs as they make me ill, so I adopted a regime for the majority of my medication in that I take my cocktail of 6 as I consume my breakfast cereal. I then drink my 75mg Aspirin well diluted in at least 250ml of water and then the whole lot is doused with a good mug of tea. One of my medications requires two further doses which fits nicely into lunch and the evening meal, again with a decent amount of fluid. If I miss one, I don't attempt to take it between meals.

I do hope you find a solution to this problem. I appreciate how annoying this sort of thing can become.

All the best,

Gerald

Hi - I don’t make a noise but recently have found that I mess up the swallowing reflex and choke, more often than I should and usually when drinking not eating, even with water. As you say started off quite amusing for my family but a bit of a nuisance.

(CABGx4 in 2020, trying to sort high heart rate and high blood pressure - never really settled. Have just seen a cardiologist, he did talk about grafts passing by oesophagous when he showed me a whizzy 3D picture. Will get new meds when letter gets to GP, so not that!)
