Ticagrelor issues

My husband is soon to come off ticagrelor and someone who came off it last year said he felt unwell and at times like he was having another heart attack. Obviously I'm concerned and wondered if this is common and will pass, his GP said he shouldn't experience anything like that....confused.com...

Hi BLbaby, I had two stents fitted on October 1st 2019 and was prescribed Ticagrelor for one year. I stopped taking them a couple of weeks ago one year to the day with no ill effects. Hope this helps.

Similar story to Parbloke. Two stents following HA in April 2019. Ticagrelor for a year and no issues whatsoever when stopping them.

Great news, thank you, keep well.

Was on them for a year after surgery and had no ill effects after stopping, hope all goes well for your husband

Well from all these replies it seems I was worrying for nothing, he is far more healthier than before, lost two stone which was necessary as three months before the HA he was diagnosed type 2 diabetes so it was quite a time for him/us. Thank you, keep well.

The only thing I noticed when I stopped ticagrelor was my tendency to bruise like an over ripe pear for the slightest knock disappeared, given I mountain bike a fair bit my shins often looked like I was a regular competitor in county fare shin kicking contests .

That is good news, he looks like he's visited a bad tattooist lol....he took up cycling as advised and does up to 30 miles + a day, work and weather permitting. He's bought a waterproof jacket and when it's dark when he comes home, he's a farmer so it always is! He'll ride up and down the drive covering around 12 miles...thanks for the reassurance, much appreciated.

I came off them with no problems. I was glad to be off as they were awful. Irritated my lungs so if I laid down to sleep I would feel like I was suddenly suffocating and jolt awake. Plus the bruising.

Glad that the meds do the job and when you think of the work they have to do it's not surprising that there is a downside. He hasn't had the jolting though, sounds very unpleasant. Thanks for your reply, keep well.

I had 1 stent in December 2018, on Ticagrelor for 12 months. Stopped taking it in December 2019 with no issues at all. The good thing about stopping it is that all the bruising get so much better.

Such good news, glad I out the question out there, feel very reassured. Thank you and keep well.

Has he had a stent fitted? The ticagrelor ensures that your blood doesn't clot around the stent - or anywhere else, really. Also make tooth extractions a nightmare!

If it's past the 1st year, it's usually safe to stop, especially if you've been told to do so by a doctor. But have a chat with your GP about it anyway.

Hi, yes he had two stents, the year is almost up so he'll be off them soon. His GP said he shouldn't have problems and it seems he was right when I look at all the replies from my question. I think it was the fact that this other person had problems and I just wanted to prepare us for a bumpy ride....looks like it won't be. Thank you to you all, it's good to talk...

As everyone else has said, no problems coming off them, and I 've had 2 lots (2 angioplasties). :)

I had HA and stent fitted Aug 2019, I required a biopsy on my adrenal glands booked for Nov 2019 but cardiologist said no as I could not stop Ticagrelor until I had been on it 6 months. The biopsy was postponed till March 2020,

I had to stop BP meds 14 days before and stop Ticagrelor 5 days before although I could still take the Aspirin.

I had no problems stopping the meds, but had low BP problems going back on them at full strength afterwards. I had to stop them and restart at half strength and build up to full strength.

I stopped Ticagrelor altogether Aug 2020 ,1 year after my HA, without any problems.
