After an above knee (AKA) or below knee amputation (BKA) you have to wear a special stocking, called a Juzo, to help shape the stump and prevent issues like a "bell end" which make fitting a prothesis challenging!
Because I had issues with the wound I still have a dressing to protect it. Whilst it does appear healed now there is now some scab tissue which they want to come off naturally rather than be torn off by the Juzo. As the Juzo has taken off dressings there is a tubular bandage over the dressing. The last nurse who changed the dressing got quite enthusiastic with the tubular bandage and hence the motor cycle boot look!
Did anyone else wear, or remember, the black leather boots with the white socks folded over the tops?
Note: Juzo is actually a trading name like Hoover. Juzo's main market is joint supports for the humanoid and equine markets.

I remember well, quadrophinia sprung to mind as I thought of them just now, good to hear things are progressing now and the infection has cleared up, most of my woes just now are from side effects, clinic tomorrow for biopsy and to see if they can tweek anything that might help, take care char
Hi after my transplant they have to do a biopsy on my new heart every two or three weeks, an echo is done in between, I think they just check for any rejection or infection, not the most pleasant thing but they have to do it, they haven't managed a couple of times so I hope it goes ok tomorrow char
LOL, Thanksnhs got there ahead of me on the boots. I always thought they looked like pirates with boot cuffs, very jaunty yet a bit roguish, I quite liked the look.
From what little of your upper left leg shows between the shorts and cuff, the colour looks good, not too pale OR red-pink, so something is going well re the healing.
Have they assessed how this whole 'adventure' is effecting your heart?
No at all really. I had an ECG just before the amputation as the one from a couple of days earlier had been misplaced. The consultant in rehab listens to heart, lung and bowel sounds during his weekly visit.
Well, at least someone is doing a chest sound check once a week, that's something, any road. Surely if the heart sounds were not right the consultant would say something.
Just wanted to say a big thank you. You will never know how much you and Milkyfairy helped me before and after my aortic value replacement and double bypass. 79 today and still going!
Hope everything works out well for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Happy Birthday! And all the best for the coming year! 🎂🎉🎈🎁🍷
A former colleague's father is over 40 years post bypass and doing well in his 90s. Follow the rules and you should have many more birthdays to come. But you can treat yourself today! 😄
Yes remember the white socks from my own 'biker' days. I don't think I wore them as I had fur lined ones. In summer it was scholl sandals, which ended up being chamfered on the sides. I cocked my leg over the bike one day and my sandal flew off and hit the bonnet of a car coming in the opposite direction. Ahh! Happy days😊😊
There's a minimal dressing on the wound with a tubular bandage to hold it in place. Over this is the Juzo which is a special stocking to help maintain a good shape. I will be asking questions later! 🤣🤣🤣
