Hello all,

Had HA in May, whilst in hospital my cholesterol was 5.9, had recent blood test and cholesterol is now 2.87.

This is due to medication and diet changes,

My question is will I be able to come off statins or is it a life medication now?

Thanks.

The dose may be adjusted, but basically statins are for life.

That's only logical as there's no cure for the heart disease that's probably behind your heart attack, so that's for life too.

What we must do is slow down the progress of our heart disease as much as possible, using a combination of medication and major life style changes.

Statins are intended to be take for life. As well as lowering cholesterol, they also help reduce the risk of fatty plaques breaking off from walls of your arteries, which will reduce the risk of further heart attacks.
