I have just been prescribed Amlopidine for high blood pressure. Have read up and says one of the side effects can be extreme tiredness. Anyone else had issues with this? Don’t want to take tablet in morning if it’s going to make me tired. Thanks

Amlopidine question
Hello and welcome to the forum! Amlodipine is one of a range of CCIs (Calcium Channel Inhibitors). Occasionally they can cause headache and dizziness for the first few days. If this continues you should consult your GP. The most common problem with CCI's is odema (usually swollen ankles). This is variable as I had it with Amlodipine but not Diltiazem (another CCI)
Hi, I was taking these for a while, and had concerns after reading the side effects, but It was fine for me I didn’t experience any side effects.
This is a commonly prescribed drug, but I quickly discovered that I am intolerant of it. As well as swollen ankles, the drug messed with my thought processes and I had difficulty focussing on my work. I gave it a month to satisfy my GP and was pleased when he agreed to put me on Losartan. I've been on that for almost a decade and never had any issues.
Like Michael, I had no issues with Diltiazem when prescribed it for a 6 week period after my bypass op.
Been on it for years with no problems.
I do react badly to other meds ie statins
If you are taking just 5 mg tablets they should be fine in most cases. Problems arise when the dose is raised to 10mg. Sometimes Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg is taken with 5 mg or 10mg Amlodipine when the desired effect isn't quite good enough in lowering blood pressure.
Amlodipine can cause swollen feet or/and ankles and sometimes calf muscles. In some people it goes away gradually.
Drinking alcohol can further lower your blood pressure and may increase certain side effects of amlodipine.
