question - confused !?!

quick question, I’ve fully embraced a whole new lifestyle after CAD diagnosis and stent however one thing I am struggling with is exercise

I am still getting a lot of chest pain (.multiple hospital trips and ecg is always normal and Troponin 2//3)

My question is if exercise helps with angina and increases efficiency of heart, how can I exercise when feeling pain and tiredness and unwell!

mot is it just a case of push through it ? - I don’t meant go out and do a 10k run obviously.

Any advise of things that have worked for you would be appreciated

Hi Echo24uk

From experience, please do not exercise when you’re having chest pain. If you’re experiencing chest pain in the middle of exercising, running, going for a walk and so on, please stop, find somewhere to sit and wait for the chest pain / discomfort to pass which I’ve been advised by a cardiologist. If you have a GTN spray, I’m sure you’ve been advised to use this too. It is not a wise idea to be pushing through the pain to exercise.

If your chest pain is unusual in any way, you should ring 111 or 999 for an ambulance.

I think this is a question which you should ask your cardiologist / GP as they will help you come up with a plan regarding how much exercise you can, and cannot tolerate without triggering your angina.

All the best.

Tos

Thanks for your reply my issue is I have chest arm back shoulder pain randomly sometimes when sat doing nothing sometime after moving around etc

I would love to ask my cardiologist however it’s months between appointments and drs at a & e just say come back if pain

I think what I’m getting at is if anyone has found they had pain but got better after exercising and if so Whst doing etc

Before I had my triple bypass I carried on cycling, the last thing I needed was to become unfit just before major heart surgery.I just reduced the intensity and IFI felt any breathlessness I immediately stopped for a few minutes. I was fine.

I am now back to about 60 miles a week with no problems, even in these gale force winds today.

Hi, Tos92 is right. I have Microvascular angina. If I walk at a fast pace I get angina, so I stop and give myself a few minutes and it goes away. If I continued at the same pace it would come back. I spoke with my Cardiologist a few days ago. His advice to me "Don't do it, pace yourself, know your limitations on what you can or cannot do". Lesson learnt, I won't be doing it again.

them you for your response, unfortunately I’m 40 with three young kids and a demanding job so ‘not being able to walk a short distance’ is not really acceptable for me, with my current diagnosis and treatment. of course if something else, like your situation, is diagnosed then obviously I would re evaluate.

hi I've got the same as you cad plus stent, I was still getting chest pain, loads of trips to a@a@e bloods normal, troopin normal, when I seen my cardiologist he got me to have a provocative angiogram which showed mircovascular angina, it was a relief to be diagnosed as I was starting to believe it was all in my head. Maybe speak to your doctor or cardiologist about this also acid reflux gave me really bad chest pain ❤❤❤❤

was your acid reflux pain different to your heart pain or similar.

There seems to be 2 distinctive pains I get one is mainly at night which is a gripping tight in my ‘heart’ area and pins and needles in arms when laid on one side for only a couple of minutes

The other is pain in left above ribs up to shoulder and back and is more a burning and is more constant

Just wondering if joining the Acid Reflux Support Forum might help. I have had acid reflux and as Shellac says, the pain can be very bad. Best wishes.

Hi

I had very same situation spoke to the cardiac rehab nurses and my Gp they reviewed my medication and increased mononitrate dosage, added in nicorandil and omeprazole in case it was acid reflux

I have been fine since, guess what I’m saying is don’t ignore it there maybe something that can be done without seeing a cardiologist but as always if you have chest pain not relieved by your GTN 999 is the answer and don’t push yourself if you have pain whilst exercising stop and take your spray

Good luck

I had open heart surgery in June of 2021 I'm still not recovered. It was the meds. I could tolerate them and because of covid no one would return my calls. Cardiologist would no return family Dr. Calls and here I am 2 years later bedridden and in more pain than any human can endure with a damaged CNS and they keep trying to give me more physically dependent medication to fix their mistakes. I am a sub victim of covid. My real life ended June 29th 2021. Check your meds.
