Beware, after my Heart Attack/Stroke and depression in 2019 , I was advised to apply for PIPs by most of the medical professionals who looked after me, today I have been informed I am to old to claim for this, you have to be between 16-65 years old, so if any of us poor people should suffer any of the above symptoms do it before you are to old to apply for monetary assistance.

Feel let down by the system who seem to have many a plan to avoid payments unlike us who never know the day we end up in theatre.

Hi Carpbait

I am sorry that you received the incorrect advice from the healthcare professionals who you met.

The benefits system is complicated!

If you are over 65 years you can claim for Attendance Allowance.

Age concern has some information. I suggest you contact them for some further support to help you.

Good luck

Hi

Sorry to hear that you have been advised to apply for PIP, which is age related. I think you can apply for Attendance Allowance which is specifically for the over 65s. PIP has two elements - care and mobility - whilst I think I am right stating that Attendance Allowance does not have the mobility component - so less money.

Ah, just seen Milkfairy beat me to it.....

Hello Carpbait

I'm sorry but you're been incorrectly advised about PIP, claims can only be made up to the age of 65.

I'm no expert on this, perhaps someone with more knowledge will be along to advice, but I wonder if you may be able to claim Attendance Allowance, see link below:-

gov.uk/attendance-allowance

You could also try having a chat with Citizens Advice or Age UK both of whom have people who can help with establishing benefit entitlement.

A welfare lady from my father in law's gp surgery applied on his behalf and he didn't even need to sign the form. First payment was in his bank before the award letter even arrived.

Good luck.

Yes you can apply for attendance allowance if over 65. Anyone caring for you, can also claim carers allowance x
