Ramipril V Losartan

I am now 4 weeks past HA and 4 Stents. Still feel dizzy lightheaded and listless like a jelly trapped in a mould!Im on the standard protocol of pick and mix drugs.80mg Atorvastatin,1.25 Bisoprolol(Beta Blocker)) 1.25Ramipril 10mgs (Ace Inhibitor). Pragugrel and Asprin.BP usually 112/64 .Upon looking on BHF site i found Bisoprolol has a caution warning in people with lung disese which i have, Sarcoidosis of lung which has been stable for 10 years with a yearly follow up at the London Brompton.I phoned the BHF helpline and spoke to a lovely patient nurse who told me not to disscontinue it.She also said i should inform the London Brompton of my HA as i may need an MRI. Yesterday i went to GP for follow up bloods to be done and she said to stop it. She said it could be anyone of the drugs not agreeing with me and its a process of elimination could be Statin or Ramipril Has anyone swopped ramipril in favour of losartan. No follow up for 3 months and no rehab except on line which i dont feel confident with due to my lightheaded dizzy feeling.

Thankyou

Yes, Ramapril made me nauseous, plus head pain.

Hi cakesandbakes, yes I switched from ramipril to losartan because ramipril gave me a persistent irritable cough

Thank you for replies. So hard to know if it's the drugs making you feel awful or something else.

Ramipril can cause fainting as you get older - you may be better taking it in the evening, the drug washes out after 12 hours.

Hi,

I was on Ramipril and bisoprolol since AVR, in 2015,

Didnt have any side effects at first ,

However, back end of 2019,

I developed a dry cough which went on through into February, then I had a fainting episode,

and a couple of blackouts/ lost minutes!

also I was feeling like death warmed up,

My gout was relentless,

Started to feel very depressed, and had some e very strange deja vue type thoughts!

I really thought I was losing it ,big time!,

Anyway I took it upon myself to stop my meds,

(Not advising anyone to do it,, I took the chance,)

Started to feel better mentally, within a couple of days,

Anyway long story short , went to my GP,

and was given 50mg of Losartan, daily ,

1 week in ,I'm feeling better ,still have gout ,

But my BP is back to normal.

Some drugs take time to give you side effects I suppose.

Thank you for reply and yes we are all given the same protocol but of course we are not all the same.Trial and error I guess.

A lot of us here have changed from Ramipril to Losartan which has fewer side effects . As your GP says though, it could be any one of them . Re Bisoprolol, I understand that your age should be taken into account too- you are on the lowest dose .

Thank you 45 sue

Yes I read on BHF guidelines ramipril is usually given to people under 55 I'm 64 .And bisoprolol not usually given to people with asthma or lung disease and since I have sarcoidosis in lungs for which I have managed the last 10 years with out to much trouble thankfully. These new drugs might not be the right ones for me. I feel like I'm wading through treacle! Not just with drugs but lack of follow up for 3 months and then it could be any cardiologist registra not nessasary the one I'm under or so I'm told.No rehab either online only. Thank goodness for this site and all you lovely people that take time to reply to us anxious newbies.

Suggest keep the statin on the suspect list too. Under normal circumstances you should have a blood test 6 weeks after starting Atorvastatin which can cause liver dysfunction & other symptoms for those it does not suit such as muscle aches and feeling like walking through treacle . Like you & everyone else, I was put on the highest dose ( 80 mg) & my liver quickly became what is called 'deranged' . I have no idea if this could be contributing to any your symptoms but it does need checking.
