Hi all,
Has anyone looked into the work of Ivor Cummings and the link between diabetes and heart disease? Suggests a low carb diet such as keto. Has anyone tried this type of diet and how have you found it?
Stay safe

Hi all,

I have been a lifelong Type I diabetic and had a quadruple bypass in 2018. As my father, his brother and their father all died prematurely of heart attacks my cardiologist's view was the issue was hereditary complicated by diabetes.
I am not in favour of the keto diet. Having experienced serious ketosis in my younger days before BG (blood glucose) meters I am dubious about the keto diet. I follow a low carb (120 - 130gm CHO) Mediterranean diet.

His team's research of identical twins suggests that it is the gut flora or biome that plays an important part in whether we are normal weight, develop diabetes heart disease or other conditions.
There is no one size fits all when it comes to diet and nutrition.

I have been on a plant based diet. No oils, complex carbs and good fats. Three years on and off all heart meds. My GP is amazed and has gone plant based himself. My Cardiologist had never heard of Ornish and Essylsten. The BHF admit heart disease can be reversed on their site( just do a search) . It is hidden away. I was diagnosed with RA at the same time as IHD and that's in remission.
