High blood pressure

Hi I've had a pacemaker for 2 years but have recently been started on amlodipine for high blood pressure by my gp. A few days in and I'm feeling nauseous and have muscle aches. Just wondering if anyone else takes this and if they've had these symptoms. Thanks.

Hia. I've been on amlodipine, in the past, neausea and vomitting are quite common side-effects. I found that swallowing it was difficult, even with lots of water it would feel like it was burning by throat and I'd cough it back up. It can be disolved in water and I found this helpped (although it doesn't taste good). Now I'm on something different though because of how much my ankles were swelling. I've not heard of muscle aches as a side effect.

Thanks for your reply. I'm speaking to my gp on Monday but I dont think I'll take any more until then because I've felt quite ill today. I'll ask if I can try something different. Thanks again.

Tracey, not the same side effects as you but I had to come off Amlodipine after having it prescribed on two separate occasions. It suits some people but certainly not all and it is the BP pill of which I’ve heard and read the most complaints. The sickness side effect you are experiencing should not be allowed to continue as it could mean your liver is reacting so do contact your GP asap.

Thanks for your reply. My gp is ringing me on Monday about the results of some blood tests I've had and liver was one of them so this makes sense. I'm not going to take any more of these until I've spoken to the doctor. Thanks again.

I've been on it for a few years for bp only 5mg but have never liked it recently diagnosed with a fib so take Bisoprolol and apixiban and Atorvastatin so I want to come off Amlodipine as recent blood test showed raised liver enzymes and autoimmune levels prior to my a fib meds made me nauseous and loss of appetite from when I first started on it but one gp said didn't think that was cause but another said it could be waiting for more tests to be done

I was surprised at how nauseous it made me and I still feel ill even though I've stopped taking it on the advice of the pharmacist. My resting heart rate had gone up to 90/100. Speaking to my gp tomorrow. Thanks for your reply. It's really helped getting some feedback from people who have taken this medication.

Hello Traceyma. I had to have a Pacemaker fitted August last year Due to very low heart rate. Then 3 months later was put on Blood pressure Tablets for high blood pressure I was put on Doxazosin. I had previously had problems with Amlodipine I had leg ulcers on my 1 leg from them Still got the scars now Obviously these tablets are not suiting you with the side effects So would go back to your gp. Doxazosin are in 2mg 4mg and 8mg i believe I take a 4mg in a morning and a 2 mg at tea time. But they are treating 2 conditions. Had no problems at all while on these tablets Hope this helps Take care Brian

Thanks For your reply Brian. It does appear from the feedback I've had from yourself and others that Amilodipine does cause problems for some patients. I have a consultation with the gp on Monday so hopefully he can prescribe something different. I will mention the ones you are on. Thanks again Tracey

Just wondering. Was your leg removed for medical or trauma reasons?

Hi I was recently put on these just prior to lockdown. The only side effects I got was maybe a little nauseous but it went after 2/3 weeks. Insomnia is more troublesome not sure about fluid retention as yet ankles seem ok but my bust seems bigger and stomach slightly but that could be I put on a few pounds through lockdown.
