When I was discharged from Hospital after my heart attack my cardiac nurse asked if I was the holder of a disabled blue badge as this would be a great benefit, reducing the stress of long walks in car parks and avoid multi level stairs, initially my local authority refused but once I sent all the relevant hospital paperwork I was granted the badge, I don’t know if your local authorities do the blue badges but it is worth finding out, you as I will be of great use.

Great reminder to Hearties who've got the need but not the badge.
How interesting. After my husband’s 2 HA, both in the Scottish winter, he applied for a blue badge,so I could drive him to shopping centres to take his walking exercise inside, out of the very cold air, but was refused. This was 13 years ago so maybe rules have changed since then, of course now he doesn’t need it anyway but how helpful it would have been at the time.
When I first applied for a Blue Badge I was turned down at first too.
I appealed and was given a badge again once I submitted the medical evidence and got the support from my local councillor.
I was then also awarded a Freedom Pass.
Afterwards I successfully applied for a PIP which I have just had renewed and enhanced for 10 years.
I found the whole process of applying very stressful. They are not straight forward to obtain and you need to be prepared to appeal if necessary. I also suggest getting help to fill the application form in from a charity such as Citizens Advice Bureau.
