Eplerenone whats it like to live with?

There is talk about moving me onto Eplerenone. I think it strengthens my left ventricle pumping action with a hope of improving my ability to breath. I have a CRT PM and ICD.

I wonder what this drug is like to life with. Can you have a drink whilst you are on it? Does it give you man boobs? Should I get more toilet rolls in?

Hi my husband is on eplerenone. He also has an ICD. He has a glass or two of wine most nights but it doesn’t take much more than that for him to really feel the effects. 🥺🙃I haven’t noticed any man boobs 🧐 and after getting used to his initial cocktail of drugs, Constipation is the main grumble.

I was on Eplerenone for a year between having a heart attack (stented) and a triple bypass. This was prescribed to protect the left side of my heart pending surgery, the right side having had the stents. I had no issues with the drug other than it did affect my chest and two years on after surgery I still have some residual effect, though it is now not outside what might be considered "normal" for a man of my age. There was no mention of any issue with alcohol, but I have always drunk in moderation and way below the recommended limit. And no, I did not need any extra loo rolls!

I have dilated cardiomyopathy and HF, diagnosed last August. I was on Bisoprolol and Candesartan then put on Eplerenone in January. I have had no issues at all, apart from very dry skin. This could be caused by any of the medication, but I feel not a problem in the grand scheme of things, just keep lathering on the E45 cream! I too have a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend, but feel the effects a lot sooner than I used to!

Good luck.

Hello

I was switched from Spirolactone to Eplerenone after developing man boobs so don't worry over that, also no need for any more loo rolls !!!

I was on 25mg daily but heart nurse just asked me to reduce to 25mg one every other day, due to erratic blood pressure. I do drink1 x 4 x 500ml cans of 4.3% beer most weeks, and on occasion a bottle of Red Wine on a good weekend without any ill effects.

I also take Entresto and Bisoprolol Aspirin, Statin, Omeprazole .

How do you get on with the CRT Cardiologist has looked at it a couple of times for me but not just yet !!

Thanks for your reply.

As regards the CRT PM - I have Cardiomyopathy and this lead to my heart beating out of synch. My EF was 28%.

The CRT PM has allowed my heart to beat normally. It can detect my need for extra puff (when climbing stairs) and behaves like a normal organic PM.

After 9 months my EF was 39%.

Hi, I had a CRTD fitted last May and have been taking 25mg per day since shortly after that. None of the effects you’re hoping to avoid and whilst not a heavy drinker, I do enjoy a refreshment and have had no ill effects.

Good luck, I hope it’s the same for you.
