Should I delay an angiogram?

I read today that 10-20% of Hospital In patients acquire Covid-19 there.

Should I go in for an angio that was cancelled in March? I am 76, and have had masses of heart investigations and treatment, but now I’m getting more symptoms, and am more restricted. The Consultant is keen to ‘see what’s going on’ via another angiogram. I was put down for August, but I delayed it as I was anxious. Now they are now trying to find an earlier slot.

What are your views? What would you do?

Hi Kristin1812

Can you say where you read that 10-20% of hospital patients acquire Covid 19 ?

Your Cardiologist obviously believes that the angiogram is necessary as only patients with urgent cases are undergoing diagnostic tests.

Perhaps contact the Cardiology team and ask them to explain the precautions they will be taking to reassure you?

Whatever your decision I hope it all goes well for you.

It appeared in a newspaper article about a month ago. It was distorted as a few health trusts had very poor results in the early days and a few staff, usually younger males, did not make much use of PPE. Everything is much tighter now. I have been to a few appointments and there were separate entrances for CovID, A&E and out-patients. There are barriers between CovID and the other parts of the hospital with full PPE and disinfection in place. Tesco is probably higher risk.

Thanks for your comments. I have seen things improve too, over the last 12 weeks or so, but I also looked up the current rate of infectious but asymptomatic, staff. Bit of a mistake!

It was in the Guardian.

Thanks Kristin I saw an article in the Guardian sometime ago.

The other change is that everyone has more access to testing which with tracing hopefully will help reduce the spread of Covid 19

Asymptomatic NHS staff are now tested for Covid 19

Good that that asymptomatic staff will get tested. Very Good.

Bad news yesterday about track and trace though. it won’t be working fully till Sept/October,

Correct, I wouldn’t stay in, unless it’s complicated. Good point. Perhaps I’ll stop fussing and just get on with it!
