Lansoprazole Cough

Anyone heard of a cough whilst taking Lansoprazole? I've been on them for a few weeks & seem to have a persistent cough that has coincided with me taking the medication. I have read it can be a side effect but that it's a very rare 1.

Thanks for the reply. I stopped & had really bad stomach pains. Been on 30mg for 3 weeks now & coughing intermittently. Desperate to get off them now & seem other alternatives so due to speak with my gp.

The other alternative is that the cough is not due to the medication, but it is refluxed fluid getting into your lungs. This can still continue even when you are on PPIs. When I was first diagnosed with reflux I went to the GP with a persistent cough.

I was on Lanzoprasole and within a week of starting the medication developed a persistent dry cough. After 4 weeks of this my HF team took me off the Lanzoprasole and started me on Eplerenone 1 x 25mg daily and this has stopped the coughing.

I was put ON it because of a 6 month persistent irritating cough & an abundance of excess mucus in my throat (not sore, but felt 'narrower' all the time). Doc tried nasal sprays for a month first (we'd hoped it might be a sinus problem - appears not). 30mg Lansoprazole, took 2 weeks to kick in & for 2 weeks the coughing has been about 80% better.
