Prasugrel and bruising

Hi All,

this is my first post on this group. I am glad to see that people are supporting each other. A month ago I had an angioplasty to his my LAD that was partially blocked. A year ago I had a an angiogram that showed some blockage in my left descending artery. The endocrinologist said just keep talking stating its not too bad. A year later I asked to see a cardiologist because I am very active in my care. She saw the test and said you need to take aspirin and your blockage its serious lets do an angioplasty if need be we put a stent. I was shocked as went a year thinking my diagnosis sis was not serious. And if I had not asked to see a cardiologist no one would know. I agree with her and started this journey. a month later I had the procedure. During the procedure the Dr said that we can do some more test before putting the stent. Its not too bad!! I was half drugged and thought lets just do it!!

I am now on prasugrel and have noticed that I have some unexplained bruising in my arm. I also have some nose bleeds and crusting especially in the morning.

I have contacted the cardiologist via email and informed her of this today as I read on line this is a serious side effect.

Any one experienced this and what was the course of action?

Thank you for reading.

Hi I had a similar procedure to you and am on Prasugrel I haven't noticed any side effects so I would contact your GP.

Hi AG68 Prasugrel appears to be a platelet inhibitor a bit like Clopidogrel. I was on Clopidogrel following a stent until a couple of months ago. I was covered in bruises and had similar problems with nosebleeds. All stopped shortly after stopping the drug. Is bruising listed as a side effect in literature.

If it works like clopidogrel or ticagrelor it will cause bruising. I looked like I'd been beaten up when I took it. Just aspirin now and I still bruise for looking at. . You must phone your doctor to discuss it but check the leaflet to see if it's listed as a side effect.
