Do we isolate or not?

All over the internet it says people with Heart Disease are vulnerable but yet we are still only being advised to social distance? I am lead to believe from tomorrow people will be contacted by NHS to self isolate for 12 weeks. 1.5 million of them yet there is over 7 million people with heart disease? I'm not very good at maths but that doesn't add up?

Hi Ticman

Here's the advice from the NHS

Social Distancing

gov.uk/government/publicati...

Self-isolating for 12 weeks with serious health conditions – see the section headed – If you are at high risk

nhs.uk/conditions/coronavir...

The final bullet -have another serious health condition is at the moment a bit vague, the best advice is to wait for the next week, until 30th March to see if you receive a letter telling you that you are in this category, do not contact your GP in the meantime to see if you're in this category as this will swamp the surgeries

So I am not at high risk because I have heart disease. I will have to continue working and hope I dont come into contact with the virus. Stay safe.

Hi Ticman. I’m not so sure about that. It depends on your job. Why not talk to your boss? Maybe there are things you can do to socially isolate?

I work in food distribution so will have to continue until government tells me otherwise. Thanks for reply.

I'm in exactly the same position as you, I work for a big supermarket so I'm in contact with a large amount of people. I have a pacemaker & can't seem to find out if I should be working or not, its quite a worry

Hopefully the government will make an announcement sooner rather than later. Take care.

Yes hopefully they will, I'm even considering phoning the pacing department of the hospital to ask, I feel guilty for taking up their time but I really would like to put my mind at ease over it.

Take care & stay safe 👍

Think you need to find correct definition of heart disease. Stent and bypass I have had not on the list so I don’t regard myself as having or had heart disease. And at 62 years old not high risk. But as always check your own for peace of mind.

I had the pacemaker fitted at the age of 26 because my heart kept stopping

Whilst most of us will not be on the ' extremely vulnerable ' group requiring self isolation we will still be in the high risk group of developing complications if we are infected with coronavirus .

This is the advice given by the BHF website yesterday.

bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo...

I quote

'Anyone with a heart condition is considered high risk of more severe complications of Covid 19 coronavirus.

If any of these apply to you, this means you are at high risk:

Coronary heart disease, such as a past heart attack, stent, or bypass surgery (at any time)'

If you get a letter - isolate

If you don't get a letter - isolate

If you are unsure - isolate

If you're in denial - ISOLATE

ANY contact means potential

transmission.

No one is immune.

Transmission leads to outcomes of varying severity, some of which will be life changing and a small percentage will be fatal. But the majority will recover.

Levels of severity are in broad directly proportional to age and/or levels of health.

I'm just restating the information that is based on recent experience and statistics and is out there to read.

Everyone needs to wake up to this now. It's not that difficult to grasp.

Of course living under this emergency is challenging, but Covid 19 is with us, killing people and this will not peak then decline until , you've guessed it, we socially distance as far as is humanly possible.

There is no middle ground or compromise.

Isolation could make all the difference between you being a

victim or a survivor.

Its not just a personal choice because your action will impact on the rest of society.

Do the right thing, and do it now.

(Its later than you think)
