My anxiety is taking a toll on me , I'm tired of going to the ER and nothing is wrong , I post on here almost every other day for reassurance but it never seems to stick in my head , I had a birth defect that was fixed when I was a newborn and now everyday anytime I feel a pain , tweak or sensation I think it's dealing with my heart or lungs , how do I stop , i cannot focus on life . . . it's sooo embarrassing going to the ER every week and nothing is found . And btw its a PDA I had when I was 4 months old , every doctor ive seen about it says dont worry but how can't I ????!
PDA SCARY: My anxiety is taking a toll... - British Heart Fou...
PDA SCARY
Are you an American - I’m guessing so as ER is not a British term? I suggest that Counselling is the answer to your issues (that’s psychotherapy in American parlance). It can be free in the UK but we can also pay for it too. I’ve not seen you post here before!
My understanding is that PDA ops are very successful. Anxiety is a huge issue to deal with and looking for support to manage it would probably help the most.
There are lots of ways but a counsellor would help. Don't know where you are but face to face services are not available in uk at present. Telephone support would surely help you
Look at the post headed
PDA Anxiety
Lots of information in the answers.
if lots of doctors have told you not to worry just think how lucky you are that you have seen lots of doctors rather than just one and have all those qualified people telling you not to worry . You could message the original poster and talk to someone else who shares your anxiety. Or you could get counselling as suggested.
ER - are you in the USA? Doesn't really matter where you are, what it sounds like from your post is that you need to look into Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
You may find it beneficial to begin with a professional trained in CBT - he/she will give you books and workbooks to use plus you will have talk therapy sessions until you've got the hang of using CBT techniques when your anxiety tries to take control of your life.
If your health insurance doesn't cover it, the cost to access CBT professionally is quite high - but SO worth it if you can afford it. There are online sites (be careful which one you choose - avoid the snake oil salesmen!!) and hard copy self-guided courses (topic book+workbook to learn and apply the technique) available and can be quite useful if you don't have insurance that adequately covers professional access.
All the best to you. Learning to cope with a heart issue, even one your doctors keep saying 'don't worry about it', is never easy and getting professional or self-guided (through a book system) is the very definition of wisdom.
I think the key might be in your own words.....perhaps it’s your anxiety that needs attention, not you heart, as your heart has had lots.
Look for a counsellor that trusted friends recommend,
This is your1st post ?? well it is under this name !!
You need to see a councellor and talk it all out. Then take Mindfulness classes to cope on a daily basis. Did wonders for me.
Yes easier said than done not to worry but if you keep worrying you’ll end up having heart problems which then you’ll regret try to enjoy your life if gps say you r ok try doing the things you enjoy life’s too short thinking what might happen after having my ha I almost went to gp every week thinking I was going have another ha yes it’s difficult not to think but u have control and gps are reassuring you so you should be thankful that you are ok no one can guarantee what happens tomorrow but you can change you life into a worrying or happy one wishing you the best
