It may be just a precaution, I think a lot of people who have been suspected of having it have tested negative after all. It takes a few days for the results to be ready

GP have been advised to screen appointments first

If it can not be dealt with by phone or skype

Thay will arrange for you to be seen but make you wait outside till you are called.

Our regional news outlet (Tayside, Scotland) carried a story yesterday all GP surgeries, dental surgeries, hospitals, out-patient hospital appointments were closed until further notice, a letter would be sent, and only urgent cases would be seen.

There was more, mostly how it's all supposedly going to work but that's the essence of the piece published late yesterday (18 March 2020) afternoon.

Had a text from GP last night all appointments pre booked have been cancelled, anything urgent Doctor will speak to you over the phone and decide course of action, I live in Scotland.

Our GP surgery has been locked down since Monday. We are in North Fife, any prebooked appointments with GPs and Nurses have been cancelled. In an emergency you can call and be triaged by a receptionist who will then get a GP to call you.

That's how it's being done over here in Angus as well.
