Can anyone give me any advice please on how to go about getting my medical records from both the Hospitals and the GP Surgery. Last year I asked the same question and had Loads of good advice from a lot of such helpful people on this Forum. But I have been in and out of hospital so many times since then,I've been unable to do anything about it. Been in hospital 5 times since Christmas. The last time was in August when I had Abdominal Surgery. I still feel very weak and in a lot of pain. But if I don't try to get my notes now, I'm never going to get them. This last operation I had is not right. I feel like I have splinters inside my stomach and when I touch that area it is really painful. I know that they used mesh and clips inside me. I am allergic to any kind of metal, but they told me that they used Titanium.๐Ÿค” There have been several mistakes made over the years. I would really appreciate any advice on how to get hold of my medical notes. Thankyou to everyone and please Take Care and Stay Safe. Glo xxx

I requested all my late husbands hospital notes and results, I called the department then filled in a form online and received everything a few days later via email. This was a few months ago.

If your GP surgery has an on line facility then you can access all your records and test results direct on your computer. Hospital records will need a written request.

In any event you won't have a problem, there's very clear legislation that gives a patient the absolute right to access their medical records. You may be asked to pay for any actual costs incurred (ie printing or X-Ray copies) but that's not usually too expensive.

My GP surgery has an online facility, Patient Access, but it only allows you to re-order prescription drugs, and (pre-Covid) make appointments....no medical records. It would be so useful in getting results of blood tests etc.

The records part is buried in the menu and not easy to find, try searching again. Unfortunately this forum isn't very good for posting photos, otherwise I'd take a screenshot to show you where to look!

The only elements on my Patient Access screen are: Upcoming Appointments; Medication Requests; NHS Self-referral services; Nominated pharmacy; and Messages - my practice doesn't offer this service.

Where are medical records buried in the menu? Are you sure you're talking about Patient Access and not some other online service?

Hi Chappychap. I don't mind paying for my medical records. There's no way that I could get all the information I need up, on the internet. Because I'm not very good with the computer. I'd get in a right mess with it all. Do you think that I would be able to get hold of them, by Letter. I really am a right doughnut. Thankyou so much for getting back to me. I do so appreciate it. ๐Ÿ‘

Hi Glo

My son whoโ€™s disabled has just recently applied for all medical records. He managed to get his doctors quite easily but the hospital ones not so much. Seems to take ages but that could be down to people working from home as the hospitals are empty, I should know as Iโ€™ve visited 3 different hospital in the last few months.

All you need is ID, you might have a bit of a wait but itโ€™s quite easy.

Hope you get sorted soon

Bast wishes

Val

Hi Val,I really need my medical records. Both from my GP and the Hospital. I have been in hospital 5 times since Christmas. The last time was in August this year. Have been out for 9 weeks after having Abdominal Surgery. But it haven't gone well. I feel like I have splinters poking out of my Tummy. They can't be stitches, because they were dissolveable ones. I think that it could be the mesh that they used. ๐Ÿค”Had an Angiogram 2 years ago. They were told that they wasn't to go in my groin AGAIN. They didn't listen, went into my groin and tore my main blood vessel. I had a major bleed. So many blunders have been made in the last few years. I don't mind waiting Val, but I do need my Tummy sorted out. I attend 4 different hospitals. Have been to my GP twice since I came home from hospital. Both times I was palmed off with the Practice Nurse . But even the Nurse was concerned about my Tummy. The Nurses are better than our Doctors. I'm changing my Doctors when I feel a little better. Thankyou so much for your help and advice. You and your Son please, Take Care and Stay Safe. Glo.๐Ÿ˜˜ xx

Just phone the hospital and ask to be put through to the records dept. They will send you a letter asking precisely which dates and specialities you need. I also got a phone call because it was a specific procedure I wanted to check on and my notes are enormous. I got them very quickly.

Hi Qualipop, Thankyou for your reply. The trouble is I wanted my notes from several different Clinic's and Procedures that I've had done. I don't know how many years ago some of them go back. My notes are enormous as well. But as long as they send me a letter asking for dates and different Clinic's, perhaps I can work some of the dates out. ๐Ÿค”Thankyou so very much for your help and advice. I really do appreciate it..

NO problem. If you don't have dates just ask for the specific clinics and procedures. I wanted two procedures but wasn't certain about dates but they found them.

In the past I've had all my x rays and scans on disc too. If you are precise about what you want, they are really helpful. If there's a huge amount, you may be asked to pay but it's not much.

I asked my GP Practice manager to see my records and had to make an appointment to go in and read a computer with the manager-who span it around so was unreadable. I had to ask to slow it down. I found 2 blood tests and urine tests missing! No explanation, but I know they were taken. Crucial in my diagnoses but not there! Several of my GP's notes were vague to the extreme with symptoms I had shared not even mentioned. Quite extraordinary.

Hi Hily, Thankyou for your kind reply. That's terrible, but what else can you do about it.I haven't long been out of hospital, because of having Abdominal Surgery. Then last Friday I had Spinal injections. Can't move at the moment. I'm in the process of changing Doctors, because mine are absolutely rubbish. My GP knew 2 years ago about my stomach problems but did nothing about it. Half of these Practice Managers think that they are Doctors. HUH. Hope you can get something sorted out. It's just not right. ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž

I now take Ezetimibe, a drug to lower my cholesterol instead of the statins. It costs more than the very cheap statins given to all and sundry. (Encouraged by back handers from the Pharma). Just be aware of the possible side effects of the statins. Get well soon.

Hi Hily, I've no idea what my Cholesterol is. My GP took me off them about 5 years ago. Since then it's never been checked. That's how good my Doctors are. I have Osteoporosis and I take 1 Adcal each day, I was also on Alendronic Acid, just 1 tablet every 7th day. But I stopped them myself, because I read that they cause calcified blood vessels. I already have calcified blood vessels, so perhaps I stopped them too late. ๐Ÿค”.I have read that Magnesium Malate tablets are better for your bones anyway. I might stop the Adcal as well and just take the Magnesium Malate tablets. Thanks for your get well wishes. ๐Ÿ˜Š

All you need to do is contact your surgery, and tell them that you would like to make a request under the Data Protection Act for your records. They are legally obliged to let you have any computerised data they have about you, but it may take a few weeks.

Thankyou EMBoy, Much appreciated.. Will do that, but I expect I'll get some hassle off them.I don't mind waiting a few weeks. I'm in the middle of changing my Doctors. The ones that I am with now are a bunch of Muppets. Our Practice Nurses are much better than the Doctors. Keep Well and Stay Safe. ๐Ÿ‘
