Just had a phone call from surgery the Gp I saw last Friday said my blood pressure very high put me on AmlodiPine. Told me come back this week for a check. The surgery said the doctor will ring you but I said I need a blood pressure check I may need further meds to lower it. They said if doctor thinks you need it he will arrange it. Very upsetting but there you go hope my blood pressure will improve started on Saturday how long do they take too work please advise anyone

How long does amlodipine take to work? Amlodipine starts to work on the day you start taking it, but it may take a couple of weeks for full effect. If you're taking amlodipine for high blood pressure, you may not have any symptoms. In these cases, you may not feel any different when you take amlodipine.

Have you got your own BP meter to check on things? If not one might be a good idea to check on progress. Omron are a good make but get the one with an arm cuff.

Can I just add, if you are thinking of getting your own BP monitor check your bicep circumference first as most will come with a standard 20cm to 42 cm cuff and not all have larger cuffs available to purchase separately (although most of the basic omron ones do as. Bought one for my mother in law)

I was told amlodipine takes about three weeks to start working fully but there will be some effect straight away.I would definitely advise getting a home bp machine.Mine is a basic Omron machine which I got from Boots but is definitely available from our favourite online retailers.Do you know how high your bp was so you can compare it?Hope all settles down soon.🙂
