Hi, I had a phone call from my local hospital to attend an appointment Barts have contacted them, the appointment is for this Thursday at
10 am that’s 14 days after my operation the place is not far but it would involve a lot of walking and going on a bus, when I told the women that I don’t think I could make she seamed a bit supprised so she said someone will phone me at 10 on Thursday, I’m still in a great deal of pain and very tiered

Could you arrange patient transport? Your GP surgery will be able to give you the number. I did this for my husband as he would have been unable to use public transport
14 days seems incredibly early. my first appointment to see the cardiologist was around 12 weeks I think. I couldn't possibly have made it to the local hospital after 14 days unless by door to door taxi and delivered very close to the cardiac unit. Have they got the timing right? Is this normal procedure at Barts?
It’s 2 weeks today since the operation and the lady did say that they would telephone on Thursday, I still I quit a bit of pain and not sleeping very well,
I slept on my own for around 4 weeks as I was very restless, wanted to listen to the radio or find a seat to sit down on and kept irregular hours.
A trek to see a consultant so soon after a major operation will likely be much further than you have been to date and involve you in unwanted exertion. Lets see what they say on Thursday
From my notes i can see that i had a telephone consultation with the cardio nurse approx 5 weeks after the operation and the first physical appointment where they tested for EF approx 10 weeks after the operation.
Unless you are having concerns its surely much too early for them to carry out tests such as EF and to be able to form an opinion on your progress.
By the way, I meant to add that I took the maximum paracetamol allowed (8 tablets a day) as I was in a lot of pain otherwise. Then suddenly at around the 4 weeks mark the pain disappeared and I didn't need pain killing tablets anymore.
That’s nice to know about the pain, I’m in a lot of pain first thing in the morning but as the day goes by it’s seam to go down, did a wrong thing this morning ask my wife if I could go to the paper shop with her, the walk was fine about 8 minutes each we came back home I sat and felt exhausted went to sleep for an hour think I done to much the wife wasn’t pleased
Hi Pat I can relate to this I’m just over 3 weeks post surgery. I had my op on the 4th of November and returned home on the 12th. I then received a phone call asking me to attend St Thomas Hospital for a echocardiogram on the 18th, I live a considerable distance from the hospital ( approx 3 hour car journey) and definitely too weak to travel by train etc. I therefore asked if the echocardiogram could be done at my local hospital and was told no the consultant wanted me to attend St Thomas. If it wasn’t for my amazing son I don’t know what I would have done, he took me by car, we left home at 11.am and arrived for my appointment at 2.20 -2.25 5-10 mins late. Getting across London was horrendous. I then had to do the return journey of course so by the time I arrived home ( approx 6.30.) I was exhausted plus the journey was very uncomfortable. I live in a bungalow and I’m still very weak just getting myself to and from the bathroom. I sincerely hope you can get this sorted they do not seem to realise the impact this surgery has on us. Good luck Take care speedy recovery Xx.
Thank you, I hope your journey was not to traumatic for, I wish you a very a speedy recovery
I’m like you still I great deal if pain and very very tiered, I don’t think others understand how we feel, two weeks today I was being operated on its to soon, I understand I will have a appointment for Barts in 6 weeks that’s 4 weeks from now a lot of recovery time
No wonder if you had a relapse. There are a lot of actions needed to deliver you to the appropriate place in the hospital, each of which would have taken their physical and mental toll. In my opinion it was FAR too early unless there was some compelling medical reason.
