Anti coagulation clinic - packed waiting room

My INR is unstable, and I have to visit the clinic almost every week. It is always full in the waiting area (usually short wait of about 10-15 mins), after blood taken, you wait for dosage in the general blood testing area, this is much more crowded. I wonder if there will be any arrangements made to limit the number of people attending. Last time I went there was a person coughing right behind me, I got up and moved away, under the pretence of stretching my legs, stood by the door until called forward by nurse.

Buy yourself a home tester then you can do test ring the clinic they will dose you over the phone, will cut your visits down to probably two or three times a year .

I have used mine for over 5 years. The doctors will prescribe the test strips. I believe there is a newer version than mine now available... and it is VAT free.

Roche it’s called CoaguChek available on line

I’ve been thinking the same thing, I’ve been on warfarin for Six weeks and I’ve had to go twice a week to the hospital for blood tests. I did ask my doctor to ask the surgeon if I could go on another drug but he said no. I’m sure a solution will be found soon. Meanwhile I really wash my hands well then use their gel on the way in and out of hospital. If they do bring in self isolation then they will have to come up with an alternative. I didn’t know that you could buy self testing kits. ❤️

In our area INR testing has just changed from GP surgeries to hospital based. Maybe not the best idea in the present circumstances. Home testing looks attractive.

100% buy your own tester my 22 year old still has to have his checked weekly. Brought it him cause of going back to work after op . So pleased I did . It’s very easy to use just phone up clinic and they give you your dosage . Better than having to wait around in clinic
