I have a pacemaker and wondered if anyone could recommend an exercise bike? I've read that magnets in bikes can be an issue.

Hi, I have an ICD and presume the same issues apply to a pacemaker. The advice book I have says “minimal risk” but maintain at least a 6-inch distance between your heart device (pacemaker for you) and the magnet in the bike. I am a cyclist and looking to get an exercise bike, my choice would be a WattBike ( but these are very expensive) . I would get one that gives you good feedback so you can monitor your improvement.

Good luck!

Thanks so much kayakboy, just looked at the Watts bike.... Yep, expensive! But I feel more confident about the risks now.

Hello Bearpaws65. I too have a pacemaker. And have started doing a cardio rehab course,at which i use an exercise bike, with no problems. So think it must be safe as the trainees would not be putting me on it. And they know i have a pacemaker. Only thing they told me not to use is the rowing machine, because of the risk of pulling the p.m wires out. Hope this helps Brian

Hi Bingo. I have an ICD. Once the pacing wires are settled in (6-8 weeks) it's fine to use the rowing machine. Just go gently at first while your arm muscles get used to it again :)
