Hi everyone, I am getting a bit worried. I am having discomfort where my kidneys are I think. Not all the time. But with my heart valve replacement operation coming up should I talk to the pre op team? Oper is 9th. Thanks, Tess

Yes, most definitely! They may suggest you see your GP. I would think blood and urine tests to check for U&Es, infection and eGFR might be appropriate. They might also perform a kidney ultrasound. Good luck!

Great so my operation will be put back and I can't even get hold of the fitness for surgery team. What should I do? "and bingo it is also my birthday. Great day.

Bless you, I'm a supply teacher no sick pay so retail therapy is a no no. Perhaps it is nothing, I don't know. Sorry if I'm having a vent I just am so totally depressed.

You have every right to vent a bit (and a bit more besides!), all things considered. Still, the pain in the area of your kidneys must be investigated before the op - better if they find out your kidneys need attention before they go in instead of something happening during the op. Hopefully it is something as simple as needing to up your fluid intake but even mild dehydration can slow post-op recovery so you really do not want to delay finding out what is causing the pain - if you can't get the fitness team on the phone, try ringing the cardiac nurse (if you have one) or your GP and be insistent you must see someone as soon as possible. At the very least your GP's practice nurse should order a urine test.

Meanwhile, HAPPY BIRTHDAY - have some cake (if it's on your diet plan) or some other special treat today, you deserve to celebrate:)

First step is to see your GP he can contact the hospital team or do some tests.

You need to see yoru GP before then. IMpress on eh receptionist that it's urgent before you have your op.

Thanks for all help. Ache has now gone. Drinking plenty and final fit for surgery appointment is Friday. Wondering if my blasted sciatica didn't help this week. If anything happens before I will see GP.
