Hi everyone,we are due to go away next month to the Canaries and i'm a very nervous flyer, so iv'e been wondering if it would be safe to take Loperamide whilst still taking the usual heart medications?
( Bisoprolol, Eplerenone and Ramipril )
Many thanks in advance

I am puzzled! Loperamide is used mainly to treat diarrhea (loose poo), and sometimes conditions like Crohns and IBS. You need to chat with your GP. Valium might be suitable to treat anxiety about flying.
Probably not something you want to order online until you can speak with your medic and/or the chemist. I've just read through the leaflet with my Bisoprolol and it doesn't say anything specific against taking the loperamide but only a trained professional can say for sure one way or the other.
I too take heart meds after aortic valve replacement,
and I also suffer from the Ramipril stomach problems ,
so I used to get through quite a bit of loperamide,
However I also suffer from heartburn, so sometimes I use over the counter remedies, containing Ranitidine,
A couple of weeks ago ,I went out to play snooker and have a couple of beers,
I had a bit of a dicky tummy ,
so I took a loperamide capsule,
and just in case I took a ranitidine at the same time.
Fast forward about an hour ,
I'd just finished my first frame of snooker ,and was sipping a pint at the bar, chatting with my mate.
all of a sudden I became very dizzy ,and started to feel sick ,and my skin became very cold and clammy ,but beads of sweat broke out on my bald head !
My mate ask me if I was ok ,as I'd turned a funny shade of grey,
At that point I decided I'd head for the loo ,and splash my face with water ,
as I stood up I realised my balance had totally gone ,and I fell over sideways into a glass trophy cabinet, thanks to my mate for grabbing my arm ,and saving me
I found a seat and just sat with my head back for 10 minutes,
I gradually recovered ,and all was well.
I did some research next day online,
and apparently loperamide and Ranitidine, are not to be taken together,
as one ,makes the uptake of the other into your system , very rapid,
(I'm not sure if Ramipril has anything to do with it ,)
or if it's just me that's got a problem ,
but just in case anyone else has the same problems ,be warned!
I had a similar reaction to yours when my GP slightly increased medication for thyroid, this happened while i was walking to the shops first thing in the morning and i felt like i'd had quite a few drinks and could barely see where i was going.
hi there ... I also take Bisoloprol and Ramipril as well as medication for diabetes. My diabetes sometimes causes "the runs" and I use loperamide often with no problems and I use a supermarket own brand which works perfectly ... enjoy your holiday.
