Well, thats it...I am officially out of ideas and havn't got a clue whats going on....Let me explain. After suffering for around 5 years, every single night with very specific night time palpitations which can be very frightening but also very life disruptive...I have now had the only test that I havn't already had before ( treadmill and bloods...again) only to be told that they cannot find anything untowards. My diet it good and I am not overweight.

The palpitations only occur when I am lying down in bed and are heavy single thumps in my heart...They happen whatever my body position is....I am getting about 20/30 times a night at random times...if I do manage to sleep, they wake my up...I am at the end of my tether...the docs have given me Statins, beta blockers and aspirin...all of which seem sensible but non of which does anything at all. I have had every test know to man over the past few years, ecg ,bloods x 3 ,calcium scores, xrays, scans, ultrasounds, angiogram and now stress tests....I think you can sense my frustrations.....sorry for the long post...but any advice would be appreciated ....Thanks.

Hi

Ask GP to refer you to sleep clinic also does this happen if you lie down during the day?

Have you had a tilt test, or stand test. ( bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo... ).

I know nothing about you in particular and am no medical expert however have had heart condition since 2002, and have been diagnosed by a sleep clinic as having sleep apnoea in Dec 2019, started treatment 24/12/2019 and felt a lot better since.

May not be the answer for you but I do know lack of sleep harms the body, and my oxygen levels at night were abysmal. Point is I stopped pushing and it took 17 years to get a partial answer!

Sorry can not think of anything else but am sure someone else may be more helpful!

Thanks for that... I already did the sleep clinic.. I had the monitor on for 24 hrs as a inpatient... they said that I had mild sleep apnia which was due to a deviated sptum that I got 25yrs ago playing rugby.. But thay also said that it wouldn't cause my palpitations.

No but consistent lack of sleep wont help. Hope you find answer soon!

This sounds a very similar situation to my friend who also went through many tests before finally being diagnosed with a leaky valve and is due to have a 7- day holster ECG to clarify exactly what is happening and when - don’t know if this is useful reflection for you - hope you get some answers and action plan very soon. Don’t

Give up until you do. Take care

Thanks... Right at the start of this horrible journey, 5 years ago, the very first thing I said to my cardiologist was that " I think I've hot a leaky valve".... He laughed and told in no uncertain terms to leave the diagnoses to the professionals and not Google!.... Yes a leaky valve is still my best guess.... But not according to the scans and tests..... Thanks anyway my friend..

Back at the start of my troubles, last century it was bejesus, I was being told all I had was reflux by cardio teams, and it was probably angina by others. Exercise tests etc ok!

Went on for three or four years until I met up with an older cardiologist. I had been admitted to A&E (again), and put on the assessment ward to see cardio on morning round. His mob approached, read my history, looked at test results and said something like: " This man has angina symptoms but passes exercise tests etc. He still has the symptoms, exercise tests are not infallible. I want a Thallium scan, (I think that was it ), done asap." Off he went, his sidekick on the round said give to the nurse to give me Gaviscon that will fix it and would be back to check. Didn't work got scan.

The result of scan led to an angio which would have led to a bypass but the cardiologist who did the angio double checked. He reckoned stents may be able to be done, and in Jan 2003 I got 3 stents.

Point of all this is that this one cardiologist looked further, all my results were ok, but the symptoms said something was wrong and that they needed to look harder! I hope you meet the like of him soon!
