Nuclear medicine heart scan
It’s fine. Many people in this forum will have had it. Haven’t heard about HAs but don’t believe Doc Goggle and stick with BHF 😀
I am going to disconnect you from Dr Google as it gives people a lot of out-of-date information and, at times, total rubbish! The nuclear scan has negligible risks. If you are prone to angina you may get some mild chest pain and very occasionally people get a mild, but treatable, reaction to the radioactive marker. Usually the test is not carried out if someone is pregnant and a few days worth of milk stored if breast-feeding. You will not glow green in the dark afterwards!
Thank michael must admit put smile on me with last comment yes dr google is not for a worrier like me but that’s the way i am I like your positive attitude and like reading your advice
I hope you don't mind my asking you to clarify - are you confirming you intend to carry on using "Google search" because you know the risks but like to worry?
I mean I will try not to google as much as I do and ask in the forum because most of us have had the same issues and experiences
The point I am trying to clarify is the information that google supplies has huge dependencies, some of which are money motivated, especially when supplied by a US source. Michael suggested you stick to BHF or may I also add Bing or the NHS own web support. Your answer again, suggests you will use
"google is not for a worrier like me but that’s the way i am" and it was that statement I was concerned how a worrier would continue to use a questionable source for such sensitive advice and information.
Hi
The test is in 2 parts one easy relaxed the next is stressed and it is over 2 days. If I remember correctly you just sit in a chair and pedal a little to circulate the injection. It was pretty straightforward. I think it was the only time, told to go and eat a greasy pie to help remove the injection !!
I do believe I was told not to hug the grandchildren for the rest of the day !!
Pretty sure I have remembered it correctly but sure someone will correct it if I am wrong !!
Which pie did you have? Beef heart with Guinness might be quite appropriate! 😊
Scotch Pie Mutton, Seeing so it was at the ARI
LOL
I was brought up on a dairy farm and am a cattle man through and through. My father would never entertain either lamb or mutton. These days I still prefer beef and she prefers lamb. I tried a piece of Welsh salt marsh lamb once and that did not taste so bad but was slightly salty.
Did they say any side affects I am wondering isn’t there an alternative test without dye
I had it done last November and no problems no side effects or anything
No side effects You may Glow in the Dark for a few days LOL
That's a Joke Yas and no side effects at all If I remember correctly you have to wait around an hour from the stuff to circulate !!
Hi I had the test in September last year the radioactive injection gives no ill effects the second injection to put your heart under strain will make you feel breathless and sick for maybe 20-30 seconds then it quickly wears off ....the rest of the test is just lying still while a machine scans 360 degrees around your body then your fine to go home but as said don't hug young children for 24 hours after the procedure....good luck
I had the stress test first, the rest test one week later. When they give you the stress injection you are being monitored ALL the time, ECG leads on and a BP monitor. I actually had 3 people in the room with me. Any reaction to the stress injection only lasts 2 minutes and I found it very mild. You then need to hang around to let it circulate before the scan and they want you to have a greasy meal. The actual scan takes 18 minutes and although it us close you are not enclosed.
I did have a problem lying on the scanner bed but I have serious spinal problems, and in their "helpfulness" they propped my legs up. I thought it had to be that way to help the blood flow or something. The following week I took a flattish pillow and arranged myself on that, no problem.
not had it done, but waiting for an appointment, the reason for me to have this is because I am unable to tolerate the contrast medium because of only having 1 kidney.
Good luck take care 💙
